HISTORY
Slipping has always been at a problem in this area, along with the the
Grey River continues to gnaw at the foot of the bank where the railway sits.
The height from river bank to rail is roughly 60 feet. Over the years numerous
ideas were tried, rocks, wagons and finally locomotives.
A few hundred metres from the dump site towards Greymouth stood a viaduct, this
use to carry the Midland Line over a nick the river had taken out. The photo
on the left shows an express crossing the deviation, with the soon to be demolished
viaduct on the left.
The image to the left shows F 5 and Ub 331 after they were dumped at Omoto,
on top of them is an array of 4 wheeled wagons, whit what appears to be an
X series wagon on the very top.
