Each month there are new photos about New Zealand culture eg nature, food, special days etc. Look at each photo and read the text carefully. Answer the questions at the end of each section and check your answers.

Photos 1-6 are popular festivals:
Pasifika in Auckland (1-3) and A and P shows, (4-6)
which are in most farming areas of New Zealand!
You can see many different Pacific Island people sharing their culture at Pacifika Festival.

Music, dancing, religious customs, craft and food are all part of this weekend festival.

A and P Shows are fun too and you will see lots of farming competions with bulls, unusual animals like alpaca and ponies, woodchopping and much more! The most famous A and P Shows are Mystery Creek, Kumeu and the Easter Show.

Photos 7-11 are food in season now:
Mushrooms, grapes, passionfruit, blackberries,and Easter eggs!

Mushrooms are cheap now but be careful if you pick them in the countryside as some are poisonous! Grapes are yummy too! Passionfruit are delicious with icecream, yoghurt or fresh but you only eat the inside seeds! You can buy blackberries but they are often wild by the side of the road. Chocolate Easter eggs are a traditional food here and other 'spring' shapes like bunnies, birds and nests as well. Shops sell them early even though Easter is in April!!

Photos 12-14 are things you can see around you in the environment:
Toadstools are poisonous mushrooms so don't eat them! You can see the leaves on introduced trees (the photo is of a Japanese Maple tree) starting to change colour now from green to orange then red. Sunsets are beautiful with spectacular colours in March and April.
