Ed)
Your nickname "goose" where did that come from?
Dave) Oh, it all goes back
to the summer of '97 when I used to work on Sunday mornings. One such Sunday,
it was offshore and the waves were pumping but I had to work. By the time
I got out to the beach the wind had just switched onshore and all the the
local surfers at Kariotahi that I'm mates with were coming in. One of them
just said "You missed it Davie Goose", and everyone just cracked up laughing.
The name sort of disapeared for while but was resurrected at the start
of this year by Gavin Murdoch after I told him this same story, I can't
remember why, and it's just stuck since then.
Ed)
I hear that you have invented a new dance craze sensation, the "Dolphin
Dive", what the hell is that?
Dave) Nah mate, I haven't
got any new ones. Just the "Goose Step" which came to be at a party in
Tarra's during this years Tony Wester Comp.
Ed)
Where do you surf around Auckland?
Dave) During the week just
at Kariotahi, but on weekends I just go where ever's good. Piha and Kare
Kare mostly and sometimes the east coast.
Ed)
Why did you get rid of your long blonde locks?
Dave) Just needed a change.
It's heaps better for surfing too, not getting in the way all the time.
Ed)
You have just finished your 7th form year what are your plans for next
year?
Dave) None yet, I'll just
have to see how I go in bursary.
Ed)
You meet Mike Stewart once, can you tell us about it?
Dave) When I was in Australia
last year I was surfing at this break with my friend and he just paddled
out. He was over for the Shark Island Contest and he'd just come down the
coast looking for waves with the friend he was staying with. It was just
the four of us out and the waves were about 3 foot and really fun. Mike
was a really cool guy, easy to talk to and he was surfing good too.
Ed
)Anything else you would like to add?
Dave) Nah, that's about
it.
The Goose perched
on the rocks.
