Two Team Race
Abington, MA 11/21/02 & 12/12/02

The above headline could very well change if we ever find out what happened to Chatanooga's team bus when they visited Columbia for a Charity game back in early November. They haven't been heard from since.

But that's as far as it will go, as the fouth team in this league is nearing mathematical elimination (if not already there) from the division title. Though one more win has been thrown into the mix for the Gremlins, several more losses by mutilation have surfaced. The defending champs are not waiting until a new champ is crowned at the end of the season to forfeit their title. The trophy already sits at SSLI Headquarters awaiting is definite new owner.

Palucaville With Early Lead
Abington, MA 11/14/02

The SSLI got going in full scale last Thursday with the entire league meeting to further the 2001 season. Nobody had a particularly great day, but the gap was widened between the haves and the have nots.

Both the Tallywackers and Porcupines further sustained themselves as the leagues powerhouses going 6-4 and 5-4 respectively. While C4 stumbled out of the gate in their first four games going 1-3, and the defending champion Gremlins continue to head south, with 2-3 mark on the night.

Bitch Slapped!
Abington, MA 10/30/02

If you thought the Porcupines did a number on the Gremlins last week, you haven't seen anything yet. In another meeting of the league the Tallahassee Tallywackers welcomed the Gremlins into town and proceded to put a beating on the Gremlins so bad that the league is considering legal action against owner Rich Murphy.

To keep the Gremlins from total embarrasment, we'll sum up the series in one quick paragraph. So far in 6 games the Gremlins have scored a total of 23 runs, in game one of the 3 game set between EGG and TW, the Tallywackers scored 21. For the series the Tallywackers hit 20 home runs (only 3 less than the Gremlins total run output for the season). The Gremlins now have a team ERA of 9.90, and Kevin Brown and Curt Schilling are a combined 0-4. Nuff said, the defending champs don't even deserve the courtesy of being called chumps at this point.

PSP Makes Champs Look Like Chumps
Abington, MA 10/24/02

The Porcupines, looking for revenge over their first round playoff exit in 2000 courtesy of the Gremlins, got just that, revenge. Behind brilliant pitching from Pedro Martinez, Greg Maddux, and Roy Halladay the Porcupines completely stymied the Gremlin offense.

A supposed boost in offese for the Gremlins was nowhere in site as Sammy Sosa, Manny Ramirez and Luis Gonzalez combined to go 4-31 (.129) in the 3 game set. That, combined with a couple of batted balls that on any other day would have left the ball park, had the Gremlins spotting only 8 runs for the entire series.

Not a good start for the defending champs, and if this is any indication of how the Porcupines are going to perform, the season may already be over.

2001 Draft Completed
Abington, MA 10/18/02

The 2001 draft was finally held last friday night with things kicking off at 7:30pm and ending at the late hour of 11:00pm. All the same faces were back again for more punishment.

Damien Boudreau, survived the off-season axe and is back for another go round as the C4 manager. Jim Delello leads his porcupines into the 2001 campaign with a fully charged battery. The porcupines failed to make the championship for the 1st time in 2 seasons, the goal for this year is obvious.

Rich Murphy is another returnee, leading his Tallywackers back and hopefully to glory instead of a heart wrenching World Series loss after going up in the series 2-0. Lastly, the defending champion Gremlins are ready to give it another go and attmept to become the 1st back-to-back champion in SSLI history. Paul Leoncavallo returns to the helm of the Gremlins and looks for nothing less than a 2nd ring this year.

The 1st games are set to kick-off this Thursday, with The Porcupines, Cookies, and Gremlins metting to start things up. The Tallywackers will be delayed a week as they will be remaining in Florida for extended spring training.
