Frequently Asked Questions

What time is the ceremony?
4 pm Eastern time, at Cypress Grove Park. Reception to follow.

What should I wear?
That's up to you. We're having fun with the theme, and would love for you to join us.

If you want to have fun too, think faery tales. Men can be anything from friar monks to pirates to handsome elven princes to satyrs (half man, half goat). Even a sailor from a few hundred years ago will work (how many sailors were seduced by mermaids in fairy tales?) They could even wear a suit and put on some donkey ears (think of A Midsummernight's Dream, where Puck turned a hapless actor into a half-donkey). You could also choose anything that has a renaissance or medeival flair to it.

The ladies have it even easier. There are several dresses that would do the trick with the right makeup and hair, such as some of the split-front chiffon bridesmaids dresses at David's bridal, or anything flowy, romantic and with a hint of sparkle. Add some flowers to your hair, colored crystal and sparkly makeup and you're set. If you really want to throw yourself into the theme, add some faerie wings, and there are also sites online (www.renstore.com is an excellent one) where you can order gorgeous medeival and rennaissance style gowns. You could dress with a flower fairy theme, or as a brownie, a water nymph, a witch or even a mermaid. A few good sources of inspiration for your dress include the movies A Midsummer Nights Dream with Callista Flockhart, Rupert Everet and Michelle Pfeiffer, or The Tenth Kingdom with John Laroquette.

That said, dressing in theme isn't in any way required. Men are welcome to come in suits, and contemporary dress is also perfectly fine for ladies.

What's all this handfasting stuff all about?
A handfasting is what a Pagan wedding is normally called. During the ceremony, the couple joins hands and take vows as multi-colored cords are knotted around their clasped hands, this symbolizing their union. Handfastings traditionally last only a year and a day, although permanent legally recognized handfastings are becoming more and more common as the number of ordained Pagan clergy grows and couples choose to make the committment a lifelong one. Our own handfasting is of the latter sort, as we have chosen to spend the rest of our lives together in a legally recognized marriage.

Am I going to go to Hell if I go to this shindig?
Only if you think impure thoughts ;-). Okay, seriously... you won't be worshipping Pagan gods, the devil, or anything of that sort. You will be sharing a very special day in our lives, eating some fantastic latin food and dancing to some kickin' tunes. Pretty harmless, overall.

Where are you registered?
We require no other gift than the pleasure of your company as we celebrate this special day in our lives. However, if you would like to bring a gift, we have registered at Target.com.

Is there anything else I should know?
Actually, yes. We're closing out the reception with a drumming circle. If you're unfamiliar with drumming circles, all it really is is a group of people sitting in a circle as they bang on drums. It's fantastic fun, and those of you who are familiar with hispanic "parrandas" will find this to be a similar experience. If you want to join in on the circle, you will want to bring a drum (any kind of drum will do) and a blanket or throw to sit on, as we'll probably be doing this outside.

But I still have questions!
No problem! Give me a call or send me an email, and I'll help you out as best I can. We're really looking forward to having everyone we love under one roof as we celebrate this day!
