La Belleclaire 250 West 77th St
A basic low priced hotel situated in a quiet area of the Upper west Side. The rooms are clean but are small and basic. Anyway you haven't  come all this way to sleep now have you ??????
Ameritania 1701 Broadway
This hotel is situated just up from Times Square, the David Letterman studios are right next door which means you have to barge through the queue to get in. Generally the hotel is ok and is value for money.
Empire 44 West 63rd St
Situated in the Upper West Side this hotel is ideal for The Lincoln Center ( opposite ) and is a 5 minute walk from Central Park and 5th Avenue.
Lucerne 201 West 79th St
If you have the cash stay here!!!!  this hotel is top notch, the rooms are huge, the showers awesome,  the most polite doorman in the world and a great store across the road,oh and a load of decent bars round the corner.
Once you have arrived try and leave the plane as soon as you can, then run like a bat out of hell to Immigration. The queues to get through here can build up very very quickly so the last thing you want to do is stand here for an hour or two. US Customs are not the quickest people in the world and always seem to be short staffed.
Once through and you have picked up your baggage head out for a cab,  only take one of the many Yellow Cabs available as these are registered and will charge you a set fee of around $40 to get to any destination in the city. Other private hire companies linger round the airport but do not go with them.

Hotels and Flights can both be booked on line,  NY Hoteldiscounts offer rooms at discounted prices, why not try one of the four recommended hotels listed below. Most rooms come equipped with TV, hairdryer, coffeemaker  and safe deposit boxes, they also have there own concierge who will help you with booking trips or visits to the theatre. It's worth noting that usually there are no meals included, you have to go out for these.
Ebookers offer discounted flight with all major airlines, fly from most international airports into JFK or Newark.  If you can  fly Virgin Atlantic, American Airlines are a good second choice.
JFK is New Yorks largest airport and is situated 15 miles from Manhattan in Queens whilst Newark is situated 16 miles from Manhattan in New Jersey.
The quickest and easiest  but not the cheapest way to get to the city is by cab. Taxi ranks are situated outside the arrival lounge at both airports and the journey will cost a set $35 plus tolls and tip. There is a bus link but who wants to mess with buses after a long flight. Ensure you only use the Yellow cabs and ignore anyone who trys to get you to take a Limo or any other type of vehicle, you may get ripped off.
There are uniformed taxi despatchers who will direct you to a cab and give you a taxi information card.  Keep this card as it  lists the drivers medallion number and a phone number to report any problems.
You should find in the Hotel room a copy of the NY City guide, keep hold of this as this is your bible during your visit. You will find inside maps, information on Theatre, shopping , dining and much more. this guide is updated weekly so will be up to date with whats going on in the city during your visit.
