In Nam Wah Pai (NWP), there is no not for me or I cant do this. The anniversary is to promote this spirit.
Participants vary in age, sex and ethnic. They bring you from surprise to surprise. After watching Polytechnics students breaking hard sticks and an aged woman pushing 6 men over, I cant help thinking Itll be me next time. The Taiji and Qigong elements make NWP suitable for everyone.
Be aware that pain is unavoidable in NWP as your body is trained to be more flexible and robust. Jianlis performance where he stretches on two chairs and endures attacks from the back and two sides of his body is amazing; but outsiders may not know how much he trained to reach such level of flexibility and endurance. In each session, we try to challenge our limits with the help of training mates. I have to say that there is quite some pain and sweat, but always, fun and relaxation follow.
Yes, trainings are always fun when there are easygoing friends around you. The same goes for the performance in our anniversary where three girls who played as Charless Angels were attacked by bad people. Indeed they made an entertaining scene with skillful moves (from our cute girls as well as handsome bad people). Such a performance made by your training mates can lighten anyones day.
Friendship and brotherhood may also be the reason for Nam Wah Pai to bring the New Zealand team to Singapore. Their performance was fun and not less powerful. There, we celebrate the first 7-dan black belt master from Western countries, which marks the climax of Nam Wah Pai anniversary. Congratulation!
Coming back from the anniversary, I keep telling my friends about the amazing scenes I saw. One brick put on another, but the attack from the top only broke the bottom brick. One line of people standing together, but each one fell into a different direction when the first person was pushed. Eventually, what really remains in my heart is: Who knows if I can do this some day.

We ended the year off with a 3 day, 2 night training camp held at Costa Sands East Coast Resort. The purpose of training camp was 1) to bond and establish team spirit within our club and 2) to train.
Even though it was rainy during the time we were there, we did what we could and everything came out pretty well. Overall, about 20 people came for training camp.
We had various games and activities planned, which included favorites such as "Paper Plane Attack", "Entangle", balloon-popping games, and a sand castle competition. We woke up early the second day in hopes of catching a beautiful sunrise, but disappointingly the sunrise wasn't visible from our location and the sky was also cloudy. However, the day went on and we went for a morning jog, went through some stance training, and ended the day with a BBQ.
The final morning consisted of a short jog, a walk on the reflexology stones, and a nice breakfast consisting of snacks and the leftover food from the BBQ. :) Thank you to everyone who came and made the camp a success! Hope that everyone enjoyed the training camp!

To celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Nam Wah Pai, the NUS NWP branch along with NWP HQ organized a Demo on 19 Sept '04. We invited overseas Nam Wah Pai branches from New Zealand and Malaysia to participate in the demo. The event was free for NUS staff and students and open to the public.
Our club prepared a group performance of the Double Short Staff pattern, a self-defense sketch, as well as individual performances from some of our senior members. Some especially amazing items to watch were the qigong demonstrations, which included breaking coconuts, bricks, sticks, and tiles and using qi to reflect a person's force to send them flying backwards.
