Teaching Ethics in NursingIn the past teaching in nursing, ethics was related to conduct. The focus was on the duties and obligations of nurses. Because of our complex healthcare system and societal change, nurses have to assume more responsibility for ethical decision-making. Nurses have to be taught how to develop ethical decision-making skills. They need to learn basic theories and principles of ethics. In today's curriculum the adult students are seen as active participants. They are involved in classroom disscusion groups, where they analyze case studies using ethical principles. Student's opinions and perceptions are valued by their educators. Together they develop an effective curriculum for teaching ethical decision-making skills. |
