By 3 months I can:Look at you, startle to loud or sudden noises, calm down when comforted, follow movement with my eyes, quiet to a familiar voice, have different cries (i.e. tired, hungry, hurt), suck well on a nipple, make coos, and gurgles, lift my head slightly when on my stomach and held at your shoulder, hold an object momentarily if place in my hand, eat every 3-4 hours, keep my hands open or loosely closed, and smile and chuckle.Health Ask my doctor about my immunization programme
To reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) please put me to sleep on my back ona firm, flat surface. Also, it is important that you do not smoke around me. My skin is sensitive and can't yet tolerate sunscreen. Please keep me out of the sun.
Activities
Hold me, talk to me and smile at me frequently.
I like it when you sing to me and read to me.
Present high contrast objects or your face approximately 8 inches away, where I can see and hear them best. Move them from side to side to encourage me to follow them.
Change my position throughout the day so that I can play on my stomach, on my side, on my back, and while being held
Nutrition
Breast milk fed to me on demand will meet all of my nutritional needs. Allow me to drink for as long as I want.
Mom please eat well because what you consume will be carried in your milk to me.
Burp me in an upright position on your shoulder. Another comfortable way is lay me across your lap and gently pat my back.
(you can freeze your expressed breast milk)
Development
I see items best when they are approximatley 8 inches away from me and in high contrast (i.e. black and white)
My hands will become less fisted over time.
My head control will strengthen as I have opportunities to play in different positions.
Many of my movements are reflexive and will become more controlled with time.
I will learn to smile and make sounds.
Safety
Give me safe toys that are too large to fit in my mouth. By law, I must always be secured in a certified child restrinat system when travelling in a car and never in a seat equipped with an air bag.
I like my bathwater warm, not hot.
Do not leave me alone in the water.
Never leave me unattended. I can easily fall from a sofa, bed or change table.
Never shake me. This can cause serious brain damage.
Never leave me alone with your pets.
Together
This can be an emotional time for my mom, support her needs so that she can better meet mine.
My brain is developing and needs social interaction and stimulation from my caregiver.
My caregiver should take rests when I do. Sing to me and dance with me.
Breastfeeding is a skill that both my mom and me need to learn.
