|
The Forum |
|
The Forum provides a venue for members of the Northwestern School of Music community to interact directly with each other at quarterly forum meetings. At these meetings, the attending representatives of the student body, faculty, and administration participate in an open dialogue regarding concerns, issues, and developments within in the school |
|
The forums are scheduled and mediated by the Student Advisory Board. |

Student Advisory Board Mission Statement |
| The goal of the Student Advisory Board is to
strengthen ties within the Northwestern University School of Music by
promoting free communication among its members. By serving as a liaison
between students and faculty & administration we provide a channel for
ideas and information to circulate. We aim to maintain this
institution's high standards as well as catalyze improvements within the
school. Our ultimate ambition is to enhance the student body's
educational and musical experience here at Northwestern.
We consist of a Core Committee of music students who have volunteered to commit time and energy to SAB on a consistent, long-term basis. This group maintains a non-hierarchical structure.

(Unauthenticated) History of the SAB |
| In the 2002-2003 school
year, lighting struck two Northwestern University School of Music
seniors. A revelation ensued. The lightning - was a
metaphor. The students - were DeAunn Erin Davis and Jessica
Schaeffer. Rather than adopting the laissez-faire attitude of most
graduating seniors, these two exceptional women mustered up all the gusto
they could find in the Regenstein basement and in themselves, and sought to
rectify the invisible monster that gnawed at the students' holes in their
souls:
Students lined the hallways aimlessly lamenting..."Why are there so
many 5 year-old violin players in the practice rooms?" "You'd think
$30,000 of tuition could buy us a clock that actually moved!" "Why
can't I be as hairy as Seth Cook?" "I'm hungry."...but the
whining was futile. After all, does a sound really occur without
someone to hear it? So DeAunn and Jessica, two of the greatest heroines
of our generation shared their lightning and their initiative with the
administration and established the organization we now proudly call the
Student Advisory Board.
Thank you DeAunn. Thank you Jess. |

GET INVOLVED |
|
We invite and encourage all students to participate in the forums. Since the various departments are separated geographically, these meetings allow the School of Music to overcome its inherent fragmentation. Not only does it provide you an opportunity to present issues and concerns directly to others, it is also a great way to get to know fellow students and faculty. In many instances, problems go unnoticed or unfixed only because people are not informed. Keep yourself and others informed. Those with apathy cannot be afforded with the luxury of complaint. So do something.
