| I walked through the front door and looked around my house looking for my family. "Mom? Dad? Tyler? Hello? Where is everybody?" I heard footsteps running around upstairs. "Hello?" My mom squealed as she ran down the stairs. I smiled as she ran up to me and wrapped her arms around my neck. "Hi mom." "Josh! What are you doing here?!" "I had to come home. Life's getting a little too stressful." She let go of me and looked into my eyes. "Well, you'll get some relaxation here. " She turned around and walked towards the kitchen. "I'm making your favorite dinner, and you favorite dessert! And in the morning I'll make your favorite breakfast...." Tyler hesitantly walked down the stairs. "What in the hell are you doing here?" "It's nice to see you too." He smiled and hugged me. "Sorry, it's just that I'm surprised to see you here. I haven't seen you in a while, and usually you call." "Yeah, well, this was kind of a spur of the moment thing. No time to call, you understand." "Yeah. Dad'll be really excited to see you." "Where is he?" "The shop. His car broke down yesterday and he went to pick it up with Heather." "When do you think they'll be back?" "I don't know. Twenty minutes maybe." "JC! Come in here while I make you dinner. We need to catch up." "JC, that's so cute. You found someone on the job." my mom said when I finished talking about Sara. I smiled. "I guess. But we're not really talking right now." "Why not?" she asked turning back to her cooking. "We got into kind of a fight. I don't want to talk about it though." "Ok." Heather smiled and leaned across the table. "Having sex problems?" she whispered. "Shut up." I whispered back. "What was that honey?" "Uh, nothing mom." I said smiling. "Anyway, how long are you staying?" Heather asked. "I don't know. As long as it takes me to forget about everything." "So you're going to be here a while?" I laughed. "I guess so." I laid in my bed that night about to fall asleep when my cell phone rang. "Hello?" "JC? Where are you?" Sara asked. "I'm at my mom's house." "In D.C.?" "Yeah." "Why?" "I needed to get away for a while." "Why didn't you tell me?" "Because we weren't talking. I thought you were still mad at me." "I was never mad at you. Just a little frustrated." "I could have sworn differently." "Don't do this right now. I want to know why you didn't even bother to call and tell me you were leaving for however long you're going to be gone." "I told you it's because I thought you were mad at me." "So what if I was mad at you? You could have at least called." "I'm sorry. I didn't know." She snorted. "Of course you didn't." "What is that supposed to mean?" "JC, I don't know if this is working anymore. We aren't the way we used to be." "You made that quite clear the other day." "Should we be together anymore?" I sighed. "I don't know. I really want to be with you, but I don't see a point anymore." "Me neither." "So.... What do you want to do?" "I think we should take a break... See how things are, and if we want to get back together, we'll get back together, but if not.. We won't. I still want to go to the premiere with you though." "That's fine." "Ok. Well, I guess I'll let you go. Bye JC." "Bye Sara." I sluggishly walked downstairs the next morning and fell into my chair at the kitchen table. "Tired?" Tyler asked smiling. "Just a tad." "Who were you talking to last night? And please don't tell me yourself." Heather said. "Sara called me.... And we broke up. All in all it was a great night." "Did she break up with you?" mom asked. "Uh, I don't know. It was kind of a mutual thing." Heather rolled her eyes. "Sure. It's always a mutual thing." "It was." "Let's not talk about this right now. It's breakfast. Here's your bacon dear." mom said putting some onto my plate. "Thank you." I walked into the living room and sat down on the couch next to Heather. I looked on the tv to see Kara Harper. "What are you watching?" I asked. "20 sexiest musicians." She turned to look at me. "What, do you think she's hot?" "Who doesn't?" She was on tv wearing a tight tank top and soaking wet. She shook her hips making it impossible for me to tear my eyes away. "JC, you're pathetic. Close your mouth, you're attracting bugs." I smiled. "So really, why did you two break up?" I sighed and look at her. "There was no reason for us to be together anymore. She said I was bad in bed! Then she tried to deny it. Whatever, I don't need this anymore. If she doesn't want to be together anymore, fine." "She said that to your face?" "Yeah. She said it was good at first, but then I got preoccupied with something else." "What was that?" "She told me she loved me. I know she was lying and it really got to me." "Was she lying?" "Yes. She told me. Which I don't see why she would do that in the first place." "Did you tell her you loved her first?" "No." "Hmm, she must be on some kind of drugs." "I hope so. It would explain a lot." She smiled. "Don't worry, Josh, she lost her mind. And I'm sure there's someone else out there for you. Better than her." "JC, phone." Tyler said sticking his head out of the kitchen. I got up and took the phone. "Hello?" "JC, is there a reason you skipped town without telling anyone?" Chris asked. "I needed to get away." "I guess you forgot about our little vacation next week." "What vacation?" He sighed. "I knew you did. We're going to Colorado next week. We've been planning this for three months now." "Oh, uh, yeah. I guess I forgot." "Obviously. Well, you need to get down here." "Why? We're not leaving for a week." "I know how you are with packing and you need to get down here now to start." I sighed. "Ok. I'll come down tomorrow." "Good. How are things going?" "Not good. Sara and I broke up." "Why?" "I don't even know. Something about not having a reason to be together anymore." "Wow, I didn't see this one coming. What about your romantic movie premiere get away?" "She said we should still go together. About the get away part, I don't think that's going to happen." "That's a shame. Are you ok about this?" "Yeah. I guess I wasn't too attached." "Well, I'm sorry. I guess I'll let you go." "See you tomorrow. Bye." "Bye." "I thought you were going to be here for a while. Why do you have to leave so soon?" mom asked as I hauled my suitcase down the stairs. "I have this trip I completely forgot about. The guys would kill me if I didn't go." "But you just got here. Can't you stay just one more day? I've missed you so much." "I've missed you too, but I have to go. I'll call more often, I promise." "You promise a lot of things, Josh." "I mean this though. Bye mom." I said hugging her. She sighed. "Bye. Take care of yourself, ok? I don't want you to end up dead in the Colorado hills or something." "Gee mom, that's so reassuring. Thanks." I said smiling and opening the front door. "Tell dad I said bye." "I will. Bye honey." "Bye." I said smiling and blowing a kiss to her. "I'll talk to you soon." "So, you drag me out of absolute bliss for this?" I asked Chris as Justin paced back and forth in his living room. "He's really stressed out. Britney. You understand." "Yeah. I told you not to call her. Why didn't you listen to me?" "I needed to hear her voice again. I don't know why, I just had to." Justin said coming to a stop in front of the couch Chris and I were sitting at. "But I told you not to. Think into the past and at how many times I've told you not to do things and I've been right. You think you'd learn to listen to me." "I'm sorry! It's just that I miss her so much." he said sitting down next to me. "JC's right you know." Chris said. "I don't want to hear this from you. You're the one that told him she called. I wasn't going to." I said to Chris. "Well, I, uh... Temporary lapse of judgment. Yeah, that's it." "Ok, whatever. Well, Justin, why did you go to her house?" "She wanted to see me. I wasn't about to say no." "What happened?" "We talked... I wanted to kiss her so bad, or just touch her, anything. She figured I did so she asked me to leave. Kicked me out again. I'm so damn stupid." "Yeah you are. Serves you right for thinking she still loved you." "Can you be anymore of an ass right now? This is not what I want to be hearing." "Hey, you're the one who didn't listen to me." "I can't believe what I'm hearing. You're what?" Chris asked me over the phone. "I'm packing. Thought I'd get a head start on it." "JC, we're leaving tomorrow night." "Yeah, a head start. This is earlier than I usually start." "I know. Well, are you excited?" "I guess." "You guess? Oh come on, you're the one who pushed the most for this." I laughed. "That was before I knew I was going to be at my mom's house. I wish I were still there." "Cheer up. You're going to love it up there, I promise." "Hmm. How long are we going to be there?" "Two weeks." "What are we going to do?" "Go skiing, pick up some chicks, get laid.... You know, just go with the flow." "The flow? Ok, sure." "You can see other women now, right?" "I guess so. We did break up." "Yeah." "73 bottles of beer on the wall, 73 bottles of beer! Take one down, pass it around-" Joey was interrupted by Justin. "If you say 72, I'm going to kill you." He was silent for a few minutes. "72 bottles of beer on the wall-" Justin reached across the seat and put his hands around his neck. "Knock it off Justin." Chris said slapping his arm away. "He's already been through the damn song once! That was torture enough, but no, he has to start again!" "I had to do something to pass the time." Joey said happily. "Please let me kill him." Justin pleaded. "No. Joey, stop singing that song." "Fine." A few minutes of silence passed and Joey started singing again. "I know a song that gets on everybody's nerves-" "Ahh!" Justin screamed reaching across the seat again. "Stop singing!" he yelled throwing Joey's head back and forth. "Stop trying to kill Joey!" Chris yelled hitting Justin. After far too many hours in a small space with the guys we arrived at the cabin we were staying in. Justin jumped out of the car and ran away from Joey, who was now singing a new song. "Come on Justin, I know you love the song that never ends!" Joey yelled running after him. I walked to the back of the car and started unloading. "So, tonight we stay here to get used to things, but tomorrow we go to the ski lodge and pick up some hot girls." Chris said helping me. "Why are you so intent on getting girls?" I asked. "Because I'm in desperate need of a good lay." Lance rolled his eyes. "You've been that way for how many years now?" "Shut up." Chris said smiling. Five days passed with not much action on my part. Everyone else in the house had been to the lodge, had gotten girls, and had brought them home, but not me. I feel like I can't. I can't believe Sara has this much control over me, even after we're apart. "Come out with us. You'll have fun, I promise." Chris said to me as they were getting ready to leave again. "No, I don't feel like it." "You never feel like it." The phone rang and Justin answered it. "What's so wrong with me wanting to stay here and relax?" I asked Chris. "You've been relaxing too long. It's time you went out and got some." "I don't want to right now." "You-" "What?!" Justin yelled into the phone. "We've had this trip planned for three months now! You can't just kick us out because someone more important wants to come and stay!..... No! We're not leaving! We still have a week and a half left and we're not leaving!" "Who's he talking to?" Chris asked me. "I don't know." A few moments later he hung up the phone. "Pack up your stuff guys! We have to be out of here by tomorrow morning." he said stomping off. I jumped up and followed him into his room. "What do you mean we have to leave?" I asked as he angrily opened his suitcase. "That was the realtor, or whatever! He said that someone else wants this cabin tomorrow, and we have to leave!" "What?! He can't just throw us out!" "You're telling me! Those punk bastards don't know who they're messing with!" "Who's coming tomorrow?" "I don't know! All he told me was that it's someone famous! So we get kicked out because we're has-beens!" I rubbed my forehead. "What time do we have to be out of here?" "Five-o-fucking clock!" "In the morning?" "No, at night. But still! We aren't supposed to be leaving for another week!" "Great. This trip was completely pointless." The next morning we started to pack our things and load them into the car. "We could do some stuff when we got home." Chris said. "What stuff?" Joey asked. "Umm, go to some clubs?" "Yeah right. No girl there in their sane mind would want us." Justin said throwing his stuff into the car. "Be more optimistic! We could go to a bar where all the women are drunk. They'd take us then. See? You just need to look at things from every angle!" Joey said patting Justin on the back. "Right." he said walking back into the cabin. "Someone needs to take the stick out of his ass." Lance said. I walked into the house and picked up another bag. "I can't believe this. I've been looking forward to this for weeks, and now we have to leave? Screw it, I'm never leaving the house again." Justin said. I rolled my eyes. "It doesn't surprise me." I mumbled. I walked to the front door and got ready to open it when it opened. I stepped back expecting one of the guys to walk in. My mouth dropped open when I saw Kara Harper standing in front of me. She jumped back a little when she saw someone else in the house. Surprised as much as me I'm sure. They're not supposed to be here till five. Her eyes ran up and down my body. Oh my God, she's totally checking me out. This isn't happening, there's no way this is happening. Justin coughed and Kara jumped and shook her head a little. "Uh, hi. Are you all the ones my bitch friend kicked out?" she asked. "Yes. We are." Justin said angrily walking out the door. She moved out of his way and looked up at me. "I'm sorry about him. He's, uh... yeah. Anyway, I'm JC." I said sticking my hand. She smiled and took it. "I'm Kara. It's nice to meet you. And, I am sorry about all this. I tried to stop her." She said looking down. "Oh, don't worry about it. I wasn't having too much fun here anyway." "It's not fun?" "Oh, no, it's fun, but they were all off doing things I didn't want to." She raised her eyebrow. "What things?" I smiled. "Exactly what you're thinking. I just don't want to do that right now. You know?" "Actually I do." She was silent. Another girl walked to the door. "Kara, we need to get unpacking if we're going to go out tonight." Kara looked up at me. "Well, I have to go. It was nice meeting you JC." "Same here." She smiled and walked away. |
