| Norwich University is the oldest private military college in the United States. With a student population of over two-thousand students, Norwich University has stood proud and honorably throughout the past 188+ years as a leading military college and academic institution. Known as "the birthplace of ROTC," Norwich University has been creating great leaders since its founding by Captain Aldin Partridge in 1819. Norwich has created leaders like Gen. Gordon Sullivan, Class of 1956, Former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and many others. In 1973, Norwich University allowed the first traditional-student lifestyle students on campus to attend classes after a merger with Vermont College. In 1993, University President Richard Schneider ordered the Traditional Students be able to live on campus along side of the Corps of Cadets. Today, Norwich University is changing to "keep up with the times." Norwich recently opened its brand new Student Center called the Wise Campus Center and has recieved approval from the board of trustees to begin construction on a brand new residential civilian dormitory complex in Spring 2008. Norwich University, its students, its Cadets and her Alumni take great pride in their school's prestigious history and continue to uphold the University's high standards and motto, "I will try." |
