BESM: Armitage III -- Julian, Yoko, and Mouse

Julian Moore (Pluto)

Total Character Points: 59
Total Skill Points: 60

The final Third created, Julian Moore was the only one created that wasn’t female. For a reason he never discovered, Dr. Asakura instead chose to make him in the form of a teenage boy. He usually wore an officer’s cap over his silver hair and a brown bomber’s jacket and had quite a cocky, know-it-all attitude. Able to access nearly any computer core with amazing skill, Julian uncovered the list of other Thirds and passed it on to Jessica Manning using the name ‘Pluto’, which was his codename in cyberspace. After Armitage was given this list by a dying Jessica she and Ross track Julian down at his school, and she instinctively knows which student is Pluto and where he is. The pair found Julian copying his thoughts into the main memory at the Navigation centre using his Navi, to create a backup of himself in case something should happen to him.

Julian and Armitage quickly developed a familial relationship, with her as the big sister and him as the little brother. After telling her that she could get pregnant and give birth, Julian delighted in teasing her about it. This irritated Armitage to no end, which only served as an impetus for Julian to continue. This was all merely a cover for the love Julian and Armitage felt for each other, however, and from the time they met they were nearly inseparable. After Ross was badly wounded by D’Anclaude’s lift trap, Julian and Armitage headed off together to bond and explore their pasts together.

The first step in this exploration was to access the main memory, looking for clues as to why either of them were created. Having decided that the best place to look for such answers would be Dr. Asakura’s file, Julian plugged himself directly into the main memory system through a port in his upper chest. This was quite painful, as the plug had to go through his flesh to reach the internal plug, but Julian was willing to do it to help out his ‘big sister’. Though the information that he discovered in Asakura’s file proved to be quite useful, Julian also exposed himself to an attack via cyberspace by accessing it.

D’Anclaude took advantage of this opportunity, having lain in wait for Julian or Armitage to access the file, and snuck a control program into Julian as he read the file. D’Anclaude then activated it, gaining control of Julian’s body and taunting Armitage, daring her to fight him. Instead, Armitage fired her pistol into the main memory port, damaging both Julian and D’Anclaude with feedback. The damage had already been done, however, and Julian died. He later revealed to Armitage that he was still alive in cyberspace, the backup he had made giving him more solidity than the ghosts of the other Thirds who also ‘lived’ there. He used his abilities there to broadcast the Dunwich Hill battle to the world, ensuring that all of Mars saw what was really happening, and supporting his ‘sister’ in the only way he knew how.

Total Character Points: 18
Total Skill Points: 0

The first ever natural-born child of a robot and a human, Yoko is a living, breathing wonder of the world. She is also cute as a button and smart as a tack. According to Demitrio’s tests on her, Yoko is a completely normal human child, having inherited no robotic abnormalities or abilities from Armitage. She does demonstrate an impressive eidetic memory in the Orbital Booster Tower, however, and a courage and strength of will that is amazing in a child so young, so perhaps Demitrio’s tests missed something or were testing the wrong things.

Mouse

Total Character Points: 37
Total Skill Points: 80

Mouse is a mystery robot, an apparent Second who shows much more personality and drive than other Second-types. He has a great facility with robotics and mechanics, and even runs his own shop, called Mouse Robot Service, where he takes Armitage after finding her heavily-damaged body and repairs her. This becomes a running repair job, as Armitage returns several times to his shop to be fixed up after an encounter with one enemy or another. Mouse, ever practical, is glad to assist her, but only after she pays him in Earth dollars--he may be a fairly nice guy, but he is hardly a charity.

This is typical of Mouse’s personality. In a world where robots are hated by many and ignored by the rest, Mouse must fight each day to stay alive and have any chance to get even a little bit ahead. What he has already done is phenomenal, owning a fully-stocked repair shop of his own and making enough money off of it to support himself day-to-day, but Mouse knows he can’t afford to rest on his laurels. One bad turn could ruin him and destroy all he has worked for, and so the practical robot is always moving, always looking for a new way to score.
