14th Febuary 2004 Indigo Colony Wednesday 11th February 2004 North Shields YMCA Basement Indigo Colony always attract a large audience but on this occasion it was larger than usual. This was probably due their amazing performance at the NTYMC Showcase. Many other bands including The Tempted, who last Saturday managed to get over 120 people into the basement, have also seen a rise in interest. The support for the night were a band called Meltdown whos set consisted of heavier marital than that of Indigo Colony and ended with a thrash metal rendition of Eye of the Tiger Indigo Colony eventually took to the stage after a short break and the set started well with all members seeming very energetic and musically spot on. A slight mistake and a second take of strange blue feeling did not hold them back and they followed that by a new song called out of touch A slower song looking at the existence of god followed but we were all then lightened up again by a set of three quick songs including Hell or Die After that the audience was lulled into a calm with the classic In an Hour which was said to be there last song of the night. A cheekily and quickly accepted encore was started by the much requested Hey Ya which featured some almost un naturally high backing vocals from Jamie and Fran. A second encore came in the shape of Radioheads Paranoid Android. All in al the night was a success and if you missed it dont worry Indigo Colony have already booked in two more dates at the basement on the 24th March and the 14th April. >>Gigs and Events<< 23rd December 2003 23rd December 2003 NTYMC Christmas Party NS YMCA Basement 12am-6pm The NTYMC Xmas Party was a simple idea. Seeing as it was Christmas it was decided to group as many bands together for one gig which would last all day and be totally free to everyone. And it worked! The Music collective recently received a new PA system and this gave a great boost in sound quality to the bands. Another new feature was a stage, which the basement had temporarily acquired. All this together with some lights from a DJ project made for an exiting looking stage Subsided started off the show and were closely followed by the Yr 9 band The Neons. Then all girl band Red Vertigo played their set including Merry Xmas Everybody Yr 8 Punk band Anti-social then performed their set which included Nofx: murder the government, Nofx: bob and Greenday: when I come around. Relatively new band Defiance then took to the stage and played an interesting set which included The Hives Hate to say I told you so with Jonny Ray on lead vocals. After a short break the music started again as Jonny and the Sprouts played. All the members of this band are related in some way and ages ranges from Phil Smith (yr8) (Mikes Brother) to Stuart and Jonny who are both 18+. Then I looked around the room and sensed a feeling of loss and tension. I wondered whats missing. Then it hit me. I was standing amongst a complete line up of TwixT including ex Singer Daniel Reed and Ex Bassist Paul Graham. Why not? The festive version of TwixT...brace yourselfTwixTmas! Played Lona and Nutters followed by the song that won them 20 quid in a school Stars in Their Eyes Merry Xmas Everybody. Daniel Reed performed well at short notice, as did bassist Paul Graham. Daniel Reed then stepped aside as current singer Paul Thompson took to the mic and sang the extended Circles and then Stereophonics Madame Helga As TwixTmas were finishing off the mood changed again we were blessed by greatness as Indigo Colony appeared and seeing as it was the season of good will they played us some classics from their now massive set including a new addition Hey Ya a slightly unusual choice I thought at first but I was then correctedthey really can do anything. Some time was then filled in by an act including members from Mike Smiths Band, Jonny and the Sprouts and Slap Stanley who played some Nirvana. Infected then played nearly theyre whole set. Including IS THIS THE END and TEENAGE KICKS. Slap Stanley then eventually appeared after being delayed and played a good half hour which included all the classic Ska Core sound you would expect as well as a new member on a set of DJ decks. It seems that Slap Stanley are the key players when it comes to musical Diversity in the NTYMC. |
