Friday 14th November TwixT play in the basement. It almost didnt happen when at 1.30 on Friday 14th November a serious incident broke out inside the YMCA. TwixT still werent allowed inside the YMCA at 5.30 that night but as soon as the incident was resolved TwixT and their small army of mates carrying amps got going. With only a short time till the start of the gig TwixT got going setting up a nice new PA that the basement recently received for a DJ project. There were some new special effects to be put up as well in the shape of smoke, bubbles and some funky sound to light gear. The support band (special guests, Mike Smith, Campbell Martin, Robbie Chyene) played there six songs and Mike Smith proved once more to be one of the very best vocalists in the collective. TwixT came on stage after a short Break and opened with 4 ways . Paul Thompson (vocals, guitar) announced that this would be TwixTs last gig. The story is that TwixT will be going away for a while and will not be seen until the SHOWCASE in January. They will be changing all there songs and will be changing the name. Singer Paul believes it is cursed. TwixT went on to play...... Trouble (Coldplay) Free (TwixT, Trevor) Lona (TwixT, McDermott, Reed) Friends (Beatles) Circles (TwixT, Thompson, McDermott) Creep (Radiohead) Open Arms (TwixT, Smith) Croc Rock (Elton john) Nutters (TwixT, McDermott, Reed) Nutter was interrupted by a quick happy birthday for Paul Graham. The gig ended and TwixT will now not be seen again until the showcaseMusical Meditation 22nd October 2003 THREE of the leading NTYMC bands all play on ONE night. As part of youth voice week North Shields YMCA Basement hosted a music evening with TwixT Indigo Colony and Opalstrobe. Opalstrobe played first and for the last time with guitarist Paul Thompson who is now concentrating his efforts into singing in TwixT. TwixT came next and Paul Thompson sang for the first time. This is the first time TwixT have played a gig for four months and since their reformation have undergone some changes. Paul Thompson now fronts the band and Paul McDermott is still there on piano. Paul graham plays bass and Daniel Wells is on drums. This is the smallest ever TwixT line up. They played five of their own songs. Daniel Reed was still present on the mixing desk and as the MC for the evening. Indigo Colony then took to the stage and played for a short time for their standards but still performed well. 6th October 2003 Indigo colony and Opalstrobe open the basement in styleand out of pants!! The basement at North Shields YMCA has been a venue for many of the collective bands over the last few months but today was it's official opening. With guests from the council and other YMCAs, along with many international guests, the show started with some presentations and the cutting of the red tape! After the pomp and ceremony the band fans were allowed in and filled the basement to it's fullest for a long time. (Nothing to do with the free admission you understand) First up on stage were local band Opalstrobe who played a five song set of own songs and covers and, despite some complications during their newer songs, still managed to end on a high with the famous Heaven and Hell (including dance!) A short time later and Rob and the lads were ready. Indigo colony played amazingly, as usual, and despite the rather warm conditions of the basement, still had the audience on their feet. During the first half there was talk of drummer Fran keeping a promise to the female members of the audience to drum topless. He did not disappoint and thats not the end. During the second half singer Rob Howe caused a frenzy in the audience by announcing that Fran would take of his jeans if the audience were good enough! A few song later and as Fran stood up from his kit, after a quick sorry dad , the jeans came off and Fran finished the set in nothing more than boxer shorts. The gig finished with the bands rendition of baby you the best and all went home satisfiedexcept perhaps Frans dad! |
