Latest NQBA News:
- 30/7/02 –
apologies for the recent lack of updates to the site, I’ve been snowed
under with schoolwork and other things like that. I’ve updated that draw and table, and
stats will be updated shortly (accurate to as at Round 6). Any problems, let me know.
- 11/7/02 -
the AGM went off without a hitch (as expected). The pizza tasted nice (as
expected). Attendance wasn't too bad (as expected). Most newsworthy issues
covered. New Executive Committee elected. Minutes will be posted on the
'About' page shortly.
- 10/7/02 - a
slight problem with the NQBA forums has now been fixed. Thanks to those
people who have signed up and gotten involved with the forums already,
it's much appreciated. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, go back
to the main page and click on the 'NQBA Forums' link to check out
(surprisingly enough) the NQBA forums.
- 10/7/02 -
the AGM is due to be held at Steve Pilchowski's place tonight. Minutes and
talking points of the meeting will be uploaded to this site as soon as I
get the time to do them.
- 8/7/02 -
the games from Round 4 have been postponed for a week, as the ice rink is
being re-painted. Check the draw for more details on when you play who
from now on.
- 6/7/02 -
we've decided to re-draw one of the games in the upcoming Round 4.
Northern Beaches Avalanches and Weak As Piss have swapped timeslots. Check
the draw page for details.
- 6/7/02 - a
decision has been made by the NQBA to award 0 points to teams that
forfeit. The competition table will be updated with these changes. In the
past, 1 point (for a loss) has been awarded to forfeiting teams, but this
has now stopped. Check the table to see the changes made.
- 1/7/02 -
Round 3 of the competition is completed. Unfortunately, two teams failed
to show up…luckily they were due to play each other, so no harm done.
Check the competition draw for final scores. MVP points have also been
allocated from the first games, and will be made available on the player
stats page some time in the very near future. Top performers from
tonight's action were Scott Fraley of Ergon, who scored 6 goals in their
10-0 victory over QLINK, and to Zen of Broomball, who finally netted their
first goals - after weeks of trying - in a 4-2 loss to Team X.
- 29/6/02 - <website
news> Many apologies for not being able to update game results, the
league tables and the soon-to-arrive player stats page, but there's been
some admin problems with confirming some paperwork. I promise, as soon as
I have the material, I will enter it into the site. So far, we've had two
rounds of action in the competition, the standout teams being the
old-timers White Goods and the Stickmen, who are currently undefeated
despite form to the contrary. Standout player is our very own All-Star
Leanne McCormack, who netted four goals for White Goods in their victory
over Ergon last Monday. Also in competition news, we welcome our newest
team Zen of Broomball to the ice rink.
- 20/6/02 -
the NQBA pitches the 'Charity Challenge' to local media in the north.
According to our secretary Angel, the Challenge "will attract public
interest in the sport", while she "expects a good crowd in the
stands". Of course, stay tuned to the official NQBA site for all the
details as they come to hand.
- 17/6/02 -
first round of the NQBA season got underway at the Warrina Ice Rink. Make
sure to check the Competition Draw link to find out how the teams went,
and the Competition Table to check out the points standings.
- 17/6/02 -
our Queensland Broomball Team returned from action in Adelaide, having had
a very successful tournament. Our Mixed team did very well to finish equal
second overall, with good showings from all players, while our Women's
team also had a great tournament. After combining with the ACT
representative team, our girls took out the Women's comp. Leanne McCormack
was selected in the All-Star Broomball Team for the competition as well.
All in all, a great showing by the team!
- 9/6/02 -
the NQBA website is now up-and-running, which you would've noticed if your
eyes are opened. We expect to have it finished completely within a month
or so. Thanks for all the positive responses to the site.
- 7/6/02 -
our budding movie star Norm had a great television debut tonight. He got
rave reviews for his spot on the local news. Rumours are that he's lined
up to do the next Mission: Impossible movie. Good on ya Norm!
- 6/6/02 -
the Queensland Broomball Team are set to leave for Adelaide to participate
in the 2002 Australian National Broomball Championships, held over the
Queen's Birthday Long Weekend. You can find details of the team at the
nationals page. The team's being co-captained and co-coached by the
experienced pair of Norm Skilton and Steve Pilchowski. We wish the team
the best of luck as they take on Australia's finest in South Australia.
- 6/6/02 -
when the Nationals return from Adelaide, Norm will be conducting an exclusive
interview with ABC Radio, 630AM. Stay tuned at around 4:30pm Tuesday as
the old man of the NQBA gives a rundown of the teams' performances in
Adelaide, and talks of the direction that broomball is heading in the
north.
- 5/6/02 -
the NQBA competition proper will start in Townsville on Monday June 17. Up
until now, it's only been an organised social competition, but the real
competition will start when the Queensland team returns from the
Nationals.
- 5/6/02 -
the juniors' competition will continue after the Nationals return. We
expect to see heaps more kids and their parents down at the rink on
Saturday as this popular session continues.
