History of National Police Cadet Corp

- 1959, Police Cadet Corps (PCC) was launched in a pilot scheme on an experimental basis. Bartley Secondary School formed the 1st unit with 30 cadets and a teacher officer. (Mr Victor Seah who was also a Volunteer Officer with the Special Constabulary)

- 2nd June 1961 - the Police Cadet Corps Ordinance was enacted. All schools were given approval to set up PCC Units. Siglap Secondary School and Serangoon Garden Government High School were the 1st to form such units. 100 boys were recruited to join these units. The 1st Commandant was Nr Ng Leng Hock.

- 1963 - PCC and the National Cadet Corps (NCC) came under the administration of the Ministry of Education (MOE) with the Director of Education as the Director of Cadet Forces.

- 1964 - PCC recruited girl cadets. 2 new units were formed in the Raffles Girls' Secondary School and Sang Nila Utama Secondary School.

- 1968 - Formation Signs were introduced for unit identity.

- 1969 - The PCC, Army, Air & Sea Corps integrated and was renamed National Cadet Corps (Police).

- 1970 - Cadet Inspectors' Unit was formed from students in Pre-University classes.

- 1971 - NCC (Police) was renamed National Police Cadet Corps (NPCC). The NPCC Band (boys only) was formed in the same year.

- 1972 - The "grey and khaki" uniform was changed to the present "blue" in line with the police.

- 1973 - Overseas Education Tours for cadets were introduced.

- 1974 - The NPCC Council was established by Act of Parliament.

- 1975 - There were 22 areas.

- 1st April 1975 - The NPCC Council was inaugurated by the Minister for Education.

- 1976 - The NPCC Band recruited girl cadets.

- 1978 - Overseas Educational Tours were introduced for Officers.

- 1979 - To further recognize the dedicated and valuable service of officers, the NPCC service medals and clasps were introduced for officers. (Service & Long Service medals introduced)

- 1980 - Proficiency badges were introduced.

- 1982 - A NPCC Unit was formed in the National University of Singapore.

- 1983 - The NPCC Pledge was introduced.

- 1984 - The Corps introduced the NPCC March (song).

- 1985 - The Inter-Unit Camp-Craft Competition was introduced.

- 1986 - The Inter-Area Project-based Competition was introduced.

- 1987 - NPCC launched the Training Resource & Courseware Kits (TRACKs 1 - 4) and introduced the Inter-Zone Debate for Cadet Inspectors (inclusion of National Education in Training Program).

- 1987 - The Pulau Ubin NPCC Campsite was officially opened by PS (Home Affairs) BG (NS) Tan Chin Tiong after the redevelopment.

- 1989 - NPCC celebrated its 30th Anniversary. School Unit Management System (SUMs) was also introduced in 1989.

- 1991 - NPCC Unit was formed in Nanyang Technological University of Singapore.

- 30th April 1993 - NPCC Officers' Day was inaugurated.

- 1996 - NPCC organized the Officers' Seminar on Mission Statement and Core Values and Beliefs. First Dining-In to commemorate Officers' Day at Senior Police Officers' Mess.

- 1997 - NPCC Swimming Proficiency Badge and SPF-Badge, the most prestigious badge in NPCC, only awarded to a select group of top cadets, were introduced.

- 1998 - NPCC led in the organization of a spectacular SYF Opening Ceremony. The NPCC Vision was also introduced.

- 9th April 1999 - The Singapore Polytechnic's NPCC Unit was launched by Professor Ho Peng Kee (Minister for State of Home Affairs)

- 1999 - NPCC proudly celebrated its 40th Anniversary with a grand parade graced by the Minister for Home Affairs, Mr Wong Kan Seng, the launching of the NPCC Alumni and the NPCC History Book.

- 2000 - NPCC strives forward to greater heights in the new millenium onwards. This new spirit is represented by the refreshing new change of all ranks in NPCC to shoulder epaulettes, giving NPCC an even more professional image.

   We will always bear true faith and allegiance to the President and our Republic of Singapore.

   We will always be loyal and true to our country, our people and the government.

   We will always be prepared to serve our country and community.
