Volume
6, Issue #6 "Where are they now? Tupper Class of 2000: Part 2" Welcome to Part 2 of catching up with Tupper alumni from the Class of 2000. If you missed Part 1 of this series, featuring the stories of Mai Tran, Maneesh Puri, Jennifer Truong, Tommy Lum and Angela Lavides, you can still find it by clicking here. Related to Part 1, I have since come across the blogs of some of the people we featured last time. I thought it would be only fitting to provide you with those now. Tommy Lum:

Andy Mui tried his hand at the university transfer program at Langara
and found it wasn't for him. He proceeded to obtain a Certificate of Technical
Studies at BCIT (BC Institute of Technology), receiving training to become
a Security Systems
Technician. Subsequently, he landed a position with Acme Protective
Systems in Vancouver and worked there for several years in a variety of
capacities including service and dispatch. After some time, Andy started
looking for a career shift and recently found it, becoming a sales representative
for 1-800-Got-Junk (http://www.1800gotjunk.com/).
He loves his new job; in his own words, his co-workers are "very
friendly, very nice people [who are] around our age too." |

| Joseph
Planta took some courses at Langara Community College before transfering to UBC
and is currently, kind of, attending UBC pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in
Political Science at UBC. When asked if he would be attending UBC in the
fall, his reply was a simple "probably not." His small email distribution
column - The Commentary - that
he started during his Tupper days has now grown into a full-fledged website
with full media accreditation. Under the banner of The Commentary, Joseph
has received accreditation (free media passes!) for such events as Eat!
Vancouver, Slam City Jam and Canadian Idol. The "On the Line"
segment on The Commentary has
seen the likes of everyone from Dustin Diamond (Screech from Saved By the
Bell) to Rafe Mair (600AM radio host). The Commentary now receives in excess
of 10,000 hits a month. Joseph also works part-time at Buster's Towing. f |

| Edward
Lau is in the final stages of completing his Bachelor of Science degree
at Simon Fraser University. As a Chemistry major, Edward has completed co-op
work terms with Science World and Enviro-Test Laboratories (Edmonton, or
as he affectionately calls it, Deadmonton). Enviro-Test
Laboratories is a Canadian company dedicated to providing accurate and
precise analytical data combined with communication and understanding with
the client. Edward is currently volunteering at the Agnes
Lab at SFU as a research assistant. He works to identify proteins expressed
from cells injured by atmospheric pollution. In his spare time, he catches
up on old episodes of Transformers and enjoys what little sun we get in
Vancouver. Edwards blog can be found at: http://densechemcow.blogs.friendster.com/my_blog/ f |

| Rocio
Banda went to Vancouver Community College after graduating from Tupper and
took the program in Hotel and Restaurant Management. She found the program
valuable as "the business courses in it really help." For a while,
she worked at Ticketmaster before moving to Los Angeles. She has since moved
back to Vancouver and worked at Citadel
Commerce, an e-commerce firm in Burnaby. Currently, Rocio is at International
Automated Transaction Services (IATS), a merchant services company,
wherein she delivers technical and accounting support for their clients.
IATS is a Ticketmaster company. f |

| Jessica
Au just graduated this past May with a Bachelor of Commerce from the University
of British Columbia. She had a double major in Management Information Systems
and Accounting and is actively pursuing a CA designation. She will be working
at D&H Chartered Accountants this
fall as part of her training while attending the Chartered
Accounting School of Business (CASB). In her own words, "I am a
bean counter, soon to be a professionalized bean counter." The CA training
takes approximately two-and-a-half years and concludes with the 3-day Uniform
Final Examination (UFE), a grueling evaluation set by the CA profession's
Board of Evaluators. This summer, Jessica will be starting on the first
two modules of her CA training while working part-time at a chiropractor's
office. Where does she see herself in five years? "Hopefully [I will
be] a manager of some sort either in public practice or in industry." f |
