Cover letter

Hello,

I�m a photographer. Some of my work has turned up in brochures through local photo distribution. I�m also a teacher of English at a local language school. Every week I meet 20 or thirty students from South America and Europe and I ask them what they�re doing this weekend. Many mention that they don�t know what to do, so I suggest some fun activities. One of the best things to do is to take a stroll along the beach, in our fun malls or along the famous Las Olas Blvd.

I moved here in 1984 and I really love Fort Lauderdale. I want to put together a short tourist guide book to sell to my students and I invite you to:
a) send me your favorite photos of your place (interior and exterior, whatever you want)
b) or invite me to make some photos of your store
THE PHOTOS MUST BE SLIDES (for best reproduction)

You will decide the final photos (if I take photos, I will show them to you and let you select your favorite). Usually I like two or three photos and then I narrow the choice down to one or two for the final page.

It�s a labor of love
I call this book �Fort Lauderdale, Great Memories� (just a working title� if you have other suggested titles, I�m interested in hearing them.).   It�s mainly a labor of love to express to family, students and friends that our little community has some remarkable restaurants and shops in our neighborhoods. I�m also hoping to sell these books to raise some money to help local charities (like a $1 per book.

As participants in the program, you will be able to buy copies at wholesale.   The pricing hasn�t been worked out but the cost will be about $6 per book (including delivery and storage)� Suggested retail price will be $12 so it allows you to sell it at $9 or $10 and make a 50% return on the cost.

In appreciation for your participation in this project, you will receive two copies of the book and you can buy the books at a special �below wholesale� price because, after all, you are one of my favorite places in my city!

The format of the book will be simple: I�m going to write something positive (�This is what I love about XYZ store�) for my students and tourists to read. One or two photos per page, one company on each page.   They can walk along my route or they can just read and enjoy.

I�m hoping that the book will have a broader appeal and that the book will be sold locally. Your store is welcome to carry the book, but it isn�t necessary. You get some free publicity in exchange for giving me permission to use your photos or for letting me take some photos. If you like the photos that I take, you can keep my photos (as long as you cover the cost of developing them).

My main aim is to create a tourism book that focuses on Fort Lauderdale. It will be lightweight, about 8 by 10 inches, about 48 pages and filled with great photos to help tourists remember the fun times they had here. It will be a personal look, so only my favorite parts of the city will be in it. And since you are receiving this letter, your store will be in the book (if a photo of your store or your products can be included).
