Americans
are for N.I.N.U.G.
The United States of America are Indivisible? Well, not exactly. Carefully read the final paragraph of the Declaration of Independence, Action of Second Continental Congress, July 4, 1776. The relevant clause informs us that
Mull it over some and you will realize that the USA can be both a customs union and a common defense area of independent states in the same sense that Germany is an independent state, European Union notwithstanding. In fact, economists at the Federal Reserve emphasize the notion of customs union in order to ignore the free-market distortions caused by the largest single business organization on the planet. The Declaration goes a step further, too:
The united States of America are Under God? Long ago, lots of well-meaning people were fooled into believing that there is an almighty god, a Creator, somewhere beyond the stars. St. Augustine of Hippo argued that the Christian god is outside both time and space, a clear-cut case of wishful thinking. Even Ludwig van Beethoven, a Catholic rumored to have never attended mass, fell for the error of god-belief and so incorporated into his famous Ninth Symphony the words, "Brüder, über'm Sternenzelt muß ein lieber Vater wohnen." (Brothers, above the starry canopy must a loving Father dwell.) Unfortunately for these poor souls, there is no basis in fact or logic for an almighty god. In fact, the Almighty is impossible.
Now, therefore, why are you so eager to retain an extra layer of tax-gobbling government that with each passing year becomes further removed from the above truths? Today's crazy scheme means that your money travels a circular route from your pocket to Washington and then back again as pork-barrel funding for the schemes of local politicians and their pals. And this is in addition to the pork you fund through state income and sales taxes. Uncle Sam could be tamed with a few reforms like eliminating IRS Form 1040 and outlawing a national sales tax, if only you could grow out of the servile relationship you have with Him. If U.S. must get a slice of your paycheck, let it be through your state government which is a lot closer to your home and your wrath than Washington, D.C., or any of the IRS's regional offices. In other words, let the states fund the federal governmentor chose not to. This is no panacea, for certain, but at least competition between the states will put downward pressure on tax rates so long as the welfare state instinct can be leashed and controlled. It will also neuter Uncle Sam, a destructive spendthrift, esp. when when the GOP is in control.
