How much do you charge? Each session lasts at least 1 hour and costs 40. For customers booking 3 sessions in advance, the total cost is 100 (a saving of 20).
How long does a session last? A single treatment takes around 1 hour.
How many treatments are needed? This largely depends on the nature and severity of the condition. Some simple problems can be resolved in one session, others will take longer. Furthermore, old injuries can often take a long time to put right.
What should I wear? Loose-fitting, cotton clothes are usually best - jogging pants & a T-shirt are ideal.
Can you treat me at home or work? Yes, I am fully mobile. I need a space about 6' square to work.
Does it treat the symptoms or the cause of the problem? Both! Tui Na seeks to ease any discomfort and also remove the causes of the problem. Almost all patients report an immediate improvement, as well as an improved sense of well-being.
Do you use needles, like an acupuncturist? No. Tui Na is a form of acupressure and as such only the hand pressure of the therapist is used.
Is it like Chiropractic and Osteopathy? Many of the techniques used in Tui Na are similar, but the emphasis is on soft tissue bodywork, whereas Chiropractic and Osteopathy both tend to focus on manipulation of the body's bone structures. It must be remembered too that Tui Na is based upon the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine that have evolved over the course of several thousand years; Chiropractic and Osteopathy are both American inventions and are around 100 years old.
Is it like Shiatsu? In some ways yes. Shiatsu is the Japanese form of Tui Na, but as with many Japanese things it is very formalised; it tends to be very subtle and treats the Qi channels more than the pressure points. The most obvious difference is that Shiatsu treatments are normally done on the floor.
