The pinup images of Vargas are probably best remembered as the subjects of Esquire Magazine's Yearly Calendar during 1940's. Many American servicemen during the war kept the artwork as momentos of what they were fighting for. The "Vargas Girl" became the inspiration for much of the artwork painted on the nose of fighter and bomber aircraft during and after the war.
