For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote to you, with many tears, not that you should be grieved, but that you might know the love which I have so abundantly for you. But if anyone has caused grief, he has not grieved me, but all of you to some extent -- not to be too severe. This punishment which was inflicted on the majority is sufficient for such a man, so that on the contrary, you ought rather to forgive and comfort him, lest perhaps such a one be swallowed up with too much sorrow. Therefore, I urge you to reaffirm your love to him. For to this end I also wrote, that I might put you to the test, whether you are obedient in all things. Now who you forgive anything, I also forgive. For if indeed I have forgiven anything, I have forgiven that one for your sakes in the presence of Christ, lest Satan should take advantage of us, for we are not ignorant of his devices. |

We have all experienced a degree of hurt at some point in our lives. Because it is in our human nature to bestow grudge after grudge upon one another, often times the hurt becomes imbedded in our hearts for years. A likeness to a wound that never heals. How sad our lives can become to be burdened an entire lifetime by a hurting heart where there is no forgiveness.
Forgiveness is a healing journey for both body and soul. And even if you know in your heart that you need or want to forgive someone, the path toward peace can be difficult. Forgiveness is a gift that you can give to anyone, and giving of that gift may be the healthiest thing you can do for yourself. Though it is important to remember that Forgiveness is not Reconciliation. And there are times when Reconciliation is not possible or even desireable.
Forgiveness is nott just about redemption to those who've done wrong, but it is also about using the power to forgive, to heal thy self. |
