Apparently, the people who elected Andrew Cuomo as New York State Attorney General, have forgotten what a mess our STATE was in when his father was Governor for all those years.  I think we would of been better off with Janine Piro despite her drama that was exposed by Cuomo.
Where have all the nurses gone? How much time do you have? I have read a number of newspaper articles describing the "nursing shortage" in our state. What I'm not reading about, are all the issues surrounding the causes and effects of this crisis. There are a few basic concepts that contribute to this growing problem: 1. Burn Out, 2. Wages and Benefits, 3. Administrative Conflicts. I can go on and on about this topic all day, but the bottom line is......it wont get better, and nurses will not return to the workforce, until these issues are resolved.
I support the troops, but I dont support the War In Iraq. The U.S. Military (and ultimately the taxpayers), have spent billions of dollars on wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Additionaly, our nation has suffered the priceless loss of life of nearly 3,000 military personnel. The Bush Administration has deceived the people of this nation, regarding their motives for the Iraqi Invasion. The proof of this was the lack of WMD found there. I cannot say that I am sorry Don Rumsfeld is gone, but is it a little too late?
As far as our local government goes, the fat cats keep getting fatter. Have you ever noticed that when you see them in the media?
When calculating the county's unemployment rate, how do they take into consideration all of the people, who receive their last unemployment check, or other people who are unemployed and do not collect any government assistance? I say.....the unemployment rate is a bogus number, under-calculated to make the legislatures look better.
There is a posse of city residents, who have formed a community organization to over-throw Governor Pataki's decision, to open a facility for 90+ Sexually Violent Predators. While I do understand the concerns that this organization has raised, my support is for the facility that will keep these monsters off of our city streets. Is it better to have them locked up in a facility that is guarded? Or, to have them living next door to you, and wandering about our community, free as a bird?
There is a growing concern about the use of internet amongst our children. Recent stories have surfaced, in the media regarding certain web hosting sites whose marketing strategies target today's teenagers. As an adult, I have experienced a number of unfavorable communications, with people I have met through internet sites. The potential for internet predators, to utilize this resource, in order to harm others, is extremely great, no matter the age of their intended target. Families who have internet usage in their homes should be aware of these potential dangers. As parents, it is our responsibility to protect our children from these internet predators. I urge parents to take precautionary measures to ensure the safe useage of internet, in the home. Utilize parental controls whenever available. Take the time to review, with your child, safe sites for them to visit. Know who your child is chatting with, and whom is chatting to your child. In my home, my child is not allowed to visit chatrooms, or use messenger services. I also have access to his email file, which is limited to communications with his father. Safe internet useage by children can only be maintained through careful supervision, by an adult.
The Health Commision is on a mission to stablize healthcare deficits by eliminating empty beds in nursing homes, and merging other healthcare facilities in New York State.  I wonder if anybody has thought about what effect, if any, the Health Commission's plans will have on the fretted Nursing Shortage in this state.  Is it likely that "their plans" will eliminate the nursing shortage, but create a long unemployment line of nurses?
