Stoley is the patriarch of NorAust Kennel. He was Cindy’s first Norwegian Elkhound and the reason she now practices dog training. Stoley was the most awful puppy and adolescent dog ever known. He would chew on bowling balls, golf shoes, and anything else he could reach. He would run away at any moment, would not listen and was just horrible to live with.
Finally, he became so unbearable Cindy sought out a local
obedience class for help. Back then, all training was done with choke and prong collars; corrections were standard fair even on young dogs. Somehow Cindy knew there had to be a better way. Stoley suffered through chokes, pops, ear pinching for dumbbell retrieves, and just about every other compulsive method for training. Through it all, he remained loyal and loving. He truly is a grand dog.
Cindy just could not bring herself to continue like this and sought out a new method. It took many years to find a better way, but every dog that now crosses NorAust Kennel & Training is trained with love, trust and understanding.
Stoley is fully trained through Utility obedience, but had a forced early retirement from severe hip dsyplasia. Stoley served many years as a demo dog for Cindy’s obedience classes. He also did many demos for school, scout troops and worked many years at the Florida State Fair. At 14 years of age, Stoley is still constantly by Cindy’s side. Every day spent with the “Big Guy” is a gift. Stoley has given Cindy an undying love of the “Great Gray Dog” and there will always be elkhounds in the Elliott family.
NorAust Training is dedicated to Stoley. He has taught us a different way of doing things.
Stoley was born a dog, he is a King.
