Godstomper Interview

1. How are you now? Tell us more about GODSTOMPER most especially to people who don't know really all you much.

Paul: Hello, I'm doing ok! Godstomper is two brothers, one on bass and one on drums and we play hyper fast and super heavy noise grind thrash shit. We've been around awhile and played some cool shows and put out some records and supported the d.i.y underground scene.

2. What is the reason why GODSTOMPER your name band?

Paul- when I was 17 years old I was angry because of being constantly harassed in high school for just being myself, I was sick of war, politics, religious fanatics and so I thought the ultimate fuck you would be name called Godstomper.

3. Can you tell us the difference between powerviolence into crustcore or other type of music? why do you call it powerviolence?

Paul - I don't think there really is a difference that's that important to Learn or to understand. It's all rocknroll to me! Powerviolence was coined by Man is the bastard and they didn't know how to categorize their music because it wasn't just generic shity death metal or bad grindcore shit or pop punk or crust , they are a weird band and very creative so they called themselves powerviolence which sounds cool , so we are different and not really too generic or shity so we got lumped as a powerviolence band too. Mind you this was 1996 when powerviolence was at its peak of originality.

4. Tell us more about your upcoming releases? What can you say about your future split with UNHOLY GRAVE and AGATHOCLES?

Paul - we have new full length LP titled anarchy U.S.A. which is rock opera of sorts about my life in Silicon Valley and the splits with Unholy grave and Agathocles are splits to help each other out in getting new music out there for the kids to hear.

5. Is your band is your daily routine of work or do you have any kind of things that keep you busy right now?

Paul - I'm college student and work as a housecleaner for my dad 's business so that keeps me busy most of the time . Godstomper is away for me to release that pent up creative energy , not so much anger because if you release all your anger you'll be burned out of being angry and become a hippie . My brother Danny is a father so he's busy with his priorities.

6. How's the underground scene is your place? Can you tell us some other bands most especially powerviolence like your band.

Paul - we had a great scene like 6 years ago known as the west bay hardcore scene which had many famous underground powerviolence bands like Spazz, Agents of Satan , Benumb , Dead bodies Everywhere etc. The scene isn't the same anymore since it's costly to live in my area so a lot of the artists, musicians moved away hurting our scene. A lot of the clubs closed down too. Hopefully one day it will come back.

7. This is the most common question I ask but what do you know to our country?

Paul - I know very little about the Philippines except my brother's wife is Filipina and we have Filipina friends. Do you speak tagalog?

8. Do you listen noise music (industrial, experimental, harsh, electronic, etc.)? What can you say about people doing this or your view about this.

Paul - I enjoy all kinds of music whether harsh noise or rock. I think if you found way to express yourself the more power to you . But I'm not very much in support of people that close themselves off due to elitist attitudes of superiority over others in any other kind of music or art.

9. If you like what is your fave noise band and what type of noise? Also some other type of band who inspired you a lot, reason that why you are here?

Paul - I really like the boredom's a lot in their old days and gero geri ge ge ge and Hijokaidan. A band that has inspired me a lot is probably hmm that's a tough one. it would have to be Japan's Ruins since I thought a two man anything concept was great and accessible.

10. How many releases do you have already. Could you tell us a short discography.

Paul - we have about 30 releases on different formats. CD, vinyl, tapes.
its kinda a lot for a short discography.

11. By the way, how easy/hard to make an agreement to your band if there's a label want to release your songs. What demands you ask for... Do you paid for every song or just a complimentary/free copies. And how many if they gave/paid?

Paul - Well there's no contracts signed if we want label to release stuff, we just agree on releasing a recording, set a date for recording and then go record a bunch of songs and give the best material to the label to release on whatever format they want to release it as. Maybe out of apr4essing of 1000 records well get 10 percent if the label can afford to do that.

12. I think that's for all now. tell us more...

Paul - HAHAHA playing in a band is like being in a relationship with girl; it can be a bitch Thanks!
