| "Helena!" Emily ran up to her and placed her hands on Helena's cold cheeks, wiping away the tears. She looked frantic and worried for her friend, but that worry turned to fury as she glared at Detective Waters. "What is the meaning of this?"
"I just had some questions for Helena, Miss Jenson." Emily looked back to Helena, the worry coming back to her eyes. "Are you alright, honey? What did he do to you?" "I assure you that I did nothing any proper officer of the law wouldn't do," Detective Waters's eyes shifted to Helena and then back to Emily. "She's been crying, and she's all shaken up! Is this what proper officers do? Upset grieving young women?" "Emily," Helena touched her friend's arm gently. "I'm fine. Can we go home, please?" "Just one second," the detective stopped them. "I just have one more question. Miss Jenson, can you account for Miss Silverman's whereabouts on the night of the murder?" "She was asleep in her room, detective. All night." Emily wrapped an arm around Helena's shoulder and began to walk out with her. "Are you sure?" Detective Waters said after them. "I'm sure!" Emily glared back. "We've gone over this already." The detective nodded to Helena when she turned her head to glance back at him. "I'll be seeing you soon, Miss Silverman. Don't go anywhere." He watched as the two women left the station, Emily obviously worried for her friend and Helena looking sick as a dog. Thousands of thoughts ran rampant thoughout his mind as he began to walk back to his office. Helena Silverman was indeed a suspect, but after seeing her so upset over what had been done to Mr. Chase, he wasn't so sure as to whether or not she could have pulled something so brutal off. But, then again, many criminals can lay on the dramatics. Detective Waters stopped abruptly and turned around, cursing to himself. He forgot the file in the interrogation room. He had been so occupied with making sure Helena was alright that he had completely put it aside. Not something any cop should do, especially one with as many years of experience as he had. He walked up to the interogation room door, noticing that the door was slightly open and the janitor had left. He could smell disinfectant as he stepped into the room and up to the table. As he looked to where the file had been, his throat went dry. It was gone! "Shit!" He yelped, diving to the floor to see if it had fallen, taking a chair with him. "Fuck!" The folder was nowhere to be seen. Two other officers had come running to the room, thinking the old detective had fallen. They helped him up. "The file!" Detective Waters hollered. "No one leaves the station until that file is found!" |
