The tunnel of Namsan

The Tunnels of Namsan

There are three tunnels which pass through in the Namsan, and we call them First-Ho, Second-Ho, Third-Ho according to the time they were built. First-Ho, whose length is 1,530m, width is 9.0m and lane is two, is connected from Phil-dong in Jung-Gu to Hannam-Dong in Yongsan-Gu. On the September In 1975, It was repaired for the first time because it had some problems such as severe leaking water and unstable system which manage air-condition in the ternel after completement of tunnel on August in the 1970. Second-Ho, which is connected between Itewan-Dong in Yongsan-Gu and Jangchung-Dong in Jung-Gu, was built on December 4th,1970. Its length is 1,620m, width is 7.2mand lane is two. Its vetical side wall looks like the shape of semi-sphere and also the depth of lining for waterless is 500mm,It is thicker than First ternel. It was renovated in the wall which was renewed with tiles, in light and in the equipment of fire-work.Third-Ho ,which is connected between Itewan-Dong in Yongsan-Gu and Hwehyung-dong in Jung-Gu, is 1,280m long. It was built in March 31st ,1978 after it started to be built in May 14th 1976. Its side wall is like Second-Ho tunnel and lining depth for waterless is 600mm.It also was renewed in light and the equipment of fire-work when Second and Third was renovated. Third-Ho has very similar route to Second-Ho tunnel has since It is next to Scond-Ho tunnel. These three tunnel, which are connect between South of Hangang (Hanriver) what we call Kangnam and North of Hangang what we call Kangbuk, helped to save time to go from Kangnam to the down-town in the Kangbuk, it took half an hour to get to each place and to move population in Kanbuk. They also helped to drive through down town from the freeway of the Kangnam and the highway of the Kyungbu. However, Traffic jam is getting hard because the width of the roads in the tunnels is narrower than the freeway of Kangnam which is connected with These tunnel. It is adopted the even oneway system especially in the peak time. These tunnels are going to be renovated because there are still problems such as leaking water, management of air-condition and lightening system in the front tunnel.
