Unlikely partnership

A Christian country by tradition, Cyprus has granted missions agencies and NGOs (non-governmental organizations) working in the predominantly Muslim world an equal status with other business and commercial organizations.

As a result, a number of church-related offices have set up in Nicosia.

In October 1991, two missionary couples -- one Assemblies of God, the other Southern Baptist -- began meeting for prayer together.  Others asked to join them, and the need grew for an interdenominational worship center where families and singles of all faiths who love Jesus could feel at home.

Living out of a suitcase

New Life Fellowship began in the home of a Lebanese Baptist couple, and quickly outgrew its setting.  In the following five years, the church met in a variety of public halls.  A Filipino pastor soon joined the leadership team, resulting in some 60 maids and housekeepers coming to Christ, as well as fellowships planted in every major city on the island where Filipinos are working.

When we're patient, God provides

In 1997, New Life rented the entire top floor of the Africanos Center on Strovolos Boulevard, giving us the space needed for proper Sunday School and fellowship rooms, as well as a 180-seat auditorium.
