Authority and Leadership

LEADERSHIP

Churches should be led by those with proven spiritual leader-ship gifts, but, if a choice has to be made, character is more important than talent.

ELDERSHIP

Elders are mature leaders in whose lives the vision and work of the Holy Spirit are clearly seen.

PASTOR(S)

The pastor is "first among equals" in eldership. The pastor of New Life displays leadership by encouraging the widest possible consultation among the elders, and recognizing and developing the ministry gifts of each member of the church.

WOMEN

We recognize and encourage all God-given gifts in women.

HONORING ONE ANOTHER

While Western expatriates are most likely to enjoy the time, finances and experience to control the leadership of the church, we determine to uphold the true equality of all believers in Christ by intentionally and prayerfully seeking racial, denominational and cultural participation at all levels of leadership and ministry among both men and women.

SERVANT LEADERSHIP

Every position of leadership at New Life is an opportunity to grow in Christ by serving one another.

SPIRITUAL GIFTS

All the gifts of the Holy Spirit mentioned in scripture are welcome in our times of worship, and are subject to the guidance of the elders who are present.

FINANCES

God's plan for the support of the church and its ministries is for each believer to contribute at least 10% (a tithe) of their monthly income to the fellowship where they are worshipping regularly and being fed spiritually.
