Introduction
X-Crypt is a fun little data encryption program that might find some usefulness due to the increase snooping on the Internet. It uses password protection to encrypt and decrypt files or lines of text.
Directions
Type the password you are going to use in the "Password" field and "Confirm Password" field in the "Set Password Window." You must use the same password to encrypt and decrypt your data. It is possible to encrypt a piece of data with one password and encrypt again with another password. Be careful! You can end up losing a lot of data this way. I would suggest using this program to decrypt and encrypt small files or lines of text. The program is too slow to handle any file bigger than 2 megabytes.
Text Translation
If you use an Instant Messenger the "Text Translation" window might be useful. After setting up your password, type some text in the "Text Translation" window. When you are done press the "Do Text Translation." You will see the data encrypted. You can cut and past the data into a text messenger. Your friend must be using X-Crypt and the same password to decode the message on the other side. If you want to recover your data, press the "Do Text Translation" button again.
Encrypt/Decrypt File
File encryption can be quite useful for sending sensitive information in an email. The X-Crypt Encrypt/Decrypt File option uses a more sophisticated encryption technique. Again you should only perform Encrypt/Decrypt on files that are 2 megabytes or less. Make sure you keep the unencrypted version of the file just in case the program fails or you lose your password.
Open Text
Open Text is just as it says, you can open a file and view it's contents. This might be interesting to do after you encrypt a file. See if you can figure out the encryption technique.
