Introduction
So you want to trick your friends into believing your computer
is possessed. Perhaps you want an automated demo for a trade show
or for a client. This nifty little program will record your
keyboard and mouse sequences in real time and save them to file.
Then you can play that sequence immediately, or at two scheduled times.
Directions
MIMIC is pretty easy to use. When you are ready to record,
press the "Record" button on MIMIC. Your keyboard and mouse will
automatically begin to be recorded to a file. The "Script"
field contains the file where your sequence is going to be
recorded. Feel free to change it, but do it before you press
record.
MIMIC will not record your mouse buttons. You will need to do the
following keyboard sequences to record mouse clicks.
Single Mouse Click:
Press "Shift" on your keyboard, release your finger from the
"Shift" button. Then press "Pause" and release your finger from
the "Pause" button.
Double Mouse Click:
Press "Control" on your keyboard, release your finger from the
"Control" button. Then press "Pause" and release your finger from
the "Pause" button.
You will know that your mouse movements were recorded properly because
a mouse click will be issued. To make things easier do not use
your mouse buttons when you are recording with MIMIC.
When you are done recording your sequence, press "Save" on MIMIC.
Congratulations, you just recorded your first script. Press
"Play" on MIMIC to play back the sequence.
Suppose you want to play your sequence at a certain time. You can
use the alarm feature. First type your time in the "Time" field
following the existing format: HH:MM:SS where HH is hours, MM is
minutes, and SS is seconds. The "Time" field uses military time.
Then type the number of times you want the script to repeat in the
"Repeat" field. When you are all set, press "Alarm". Now
you can just sit back and watch the computer go crazy at the
predetermined time.
If your sequence is annoying you to death, you can always press the
"Stop" button on MIMIC. I have to admit that it is a bit of a
hassle since your keyboard and mouse movements are competing with
MIMIC's keyboard and mouse movements. You can also you the "Stop"
button to discard a record or to turn off all the alarms.
