How to change the oil in your manual transmission Maxima. I will try to walk you through step by step on how to change your transmission fluid. I use Redline MT-90 Manual Transmission fluid. Its a little expensive but its the best bang for the buck.





This is a picture of what the transmission fill plug Looks like. Useing a 1/2inch socket wrench, open this plug first before you drain the transmission oil. It would be a bad mistake to drain the transmission oil and not being able to fill it up b/c you couldn't get the fill plug to open. (click for larger image)





This is a picture of what the transmission fill plug looks like open. One of the ways to check to see if you have enough oil in the transmission is stick your finger inside the hole and see if it gets oil on it (make sure the car is cold when you do this). Also when you fill oil into the transmission when it starts to come out of the fill hole that means its full. Let it drain all the way and then cap up this screw. (click for larger image)



This is a picture of the transmission drain sensor/port. This is actually a speedometer sensor. Be careful with this and handle it with care. Try not to pull on the cord or pry it out with a screw driver. Also there is a rubber ring around the sensor. When you remove it from the transmission pay attention to the plug. Careful pulling that sensor out. The oil is ready to come out as soon as you pull the sensor. Hold the pot steady and firm :-D (click for larger image)








Close picture of the speedo sensor. Be careful. Wipe it clean if you touch it and make it dirty. This is not the piece you want to get dirt on. Install the sensor back in its place and at this time you are ready to put fresh fluid in the transmission(click for larger image)






Finally once the oil is drained and you have installed the sensor back in its place, use a large funnel or a air punp to pump new fluid into the transmisson fill port. Once the oil starts to over fill out of the fill port stop and let it drip out. Once the drip stops, close the fill plug and you are done with the oil change.(click for larger image)
