’’Robert (his younger brother) and I were a kind of big boys and we used to get in trouble’’ Krist says in his teenage-years. ‘’Slamming on things and stuff..’’ My dad just wanted to slam us, because he didn’t now something else to do. We were afraid of him. But he was no abuser, I don’t think he abused us. It was just action and reaction. For example Robert, he got glasses, and the day after he broke his glasses! That was just Robert, we’d like to do shit like that, throwing rocks at houses, throwing rocks at cars, .. There was a time that vandalism was very cool! So if we did things like that, we were cool…

Krist says that he and his brother came out vandalism around the time they moved to Aberdeen in 1979, when Krist was 14.
The landed property prices were getting to high in Compton for the Novoselic-family and they could buy a nice house in Aberdeen for a low price. Mr Novoselic got a job as machinist. Krist didn't like living in Aberdeen! It was an old village, old people, …

Krist listened to music of Led Zeppelin, Devo, Black Sabbath and Aerosmith, all this bands were his favorites, likely that were the only bands that the locally radio station played.

In June 1980 his parents were so worried about Krist because he was so hard depressed. They send him back to Croatia to family of him. There he made lots of friends, he loved living there, the school was great, there he discovered music what they called ‘Punk Rock’ : Sex Pistols, the Ramones en also a couple of Croatian punkbands. ‘’That music doesn’t meant mutch to me, it was just music that I liked. ‘’After a year his parents got him back out of Croatia. Back in Aberdeen the depression was coming back a little bit. ‘’I was just a weird person’’ Krist says. He started drinking and he smoked a lot! ‘’I’ve been always a big drinker, when I drink, I just don’t stop! I love to drink cuss then you are in a weird cartoon-land where everything is good. It’s crazy. It’s another reality and another world where you are at that moment. Krist was very known on party’s. ‘’You just go to party’s and people begin to say ‘Hey Krist’. They always knew him as the big weird guy because he always did rare things. They just thought he was weird. He go to party’s and he jumps around.. He had some people to hang out with, but he didn’t want to call them friends, because he had no one else. Finally he got a job, nightwork. On his last year on high-school he bought a car, some boxes and a guitar. He watched to some lessons of his brother and he asked the teacher of his brother (Warren Mason) if he could also follow some lessons. He quit after a couple months but he kept on playing on his room.
About that time Robert took his friend Kurt Cobain to the house of the Novoselic’s. When Kurt heard music he asked Robert : Where’s that noise from? Robert answered : ‘’Oh, that’s my brother Krist, he’s listening to punk-rock.

Krist finished school in 1983. Short after his parents divorced. It was a hard time!

During a day in high-school he walked after 2 girls who were talking about the new album of the Sex Pistols, ‘Yeah, they’re really great’’!, that was what he heard. Shelli knew him as a ‘class-clown-type’, always funny, They talked a bit en they became friends.

Shelli quit with her last year and she got a job in ‘Mc-Donalds’ and she had her own flat. She and Krist became very good friends, they called each other and they go out together and stuff..
