Dietary Management

For dietary management the goal would be to normalize body weight and body fat, which nonetheless makes sure that normal growth and development occur. A food diary should be kept for these children in order to help in their dietary assessments. This diary should include what was eaten, how much was consumed, where it was consumed, the time of day and who else was present. It is also imperative that parents be supplied with a special calorie-per-day recommendation which follows guidelines for percentage of fat, protein, and carbohydrates. Another significant factor is dietary fiber which elevates satiety and transfers fat in the diet. The patient and the family should be told to look into books which present and explain nutritional content of foods. Furthermore, if services exist in the community, the patient and their family should be referred to a nutritionist.
