Dominique Benin

The Mugambe Family, that was to become known as the Benin Slayers, emerged in the 12th century, as a group of early political activists and traders who travelled across Africa. Their trade, as well as the 'noise' they made, brought them to Benin, a very prosperous African city at the time. They caught the interest, and disdain for some, of the obas, or the Kings, who ruled there. The end result of this, stretching over numerous years, was the Mugambe Family making up more than half of the Second Benin Dynasty - by this time, the two bloodlines had mingled irreparably.

This new Dynasty brought beliefs of peace rather than war, and strong outrage against the trade of slaves from Africa to the New World. These protests, peaceful and violent, lasted well through the 16th century and on to the 18th century, causing great dissatisfaction to the New World, and in some parts of Africa. The original Benin descendants, those who had been against the Mugambe's beliefs in the first place, were quick to reclaim their line in Benin. Betrayal to the remaining Mugambe's was swift, and delivered in the cruelest way possible. The children were sold into the New World as slaves, the adults killed in order to prevent the fostering of the Mugambe line any further. All documents of the lost children were destroyed.

But they were hardly gone. They banded together in the New World, now slaves, but no less Royal. Over the years british blood inevitably mixed with their own line, as it was wont to do in those times. This went on until the end of 18th century.

At the end of the century, the Mugambe would realize their potential as Slayers. Mainly because it was then that they had their first encounter with vampires, particularly soldiers and the like, Therion. The children latched onto them, fighting them, fighting with a purpose, when one of them was killed by a vampire. Slaying gave the young slaves a reason for survival, it turned into a mission for them.

The first Mugambe freed descendent, a young African man whose bloodline was mixed heavily with European blood, was the first to begin slaying in earnest as part of a group. That group was the Forty. But he still hungered for his homeland, and his Families legacy, for he believed that they were not only slayers, they were of the Benin Family, of royalty.

Over the years, as the Benin in Africa eventually fell, they still held control of the "Gold Coast", a gold-producing zone in Africa, and were wealthy if not in total power. The young man felt that it belonged to his line, who had been wronged, and who served a greater purpose as Slayers than the original Benin line.

He returned to Africa, to a small Portuguese colony in Angola. From there he slowly took back the Benin name, and has continued with his children and their children. When his descendants owned the "Gold Coast", and the Benin Family name, they returned to Europe, and then to America, to continue do their duty as Slayers, a legacy that the first slaves of their line had secured for them.

They terrified the Kindred world, with their cunning, sometimes guerilla tactics, and the raw strength of every single member. The Kindred soon came to learn that if you cut one Benin Slayer, then the entire Benin Family bled. Not soon after, they became known world-wide as the Benin Slayers.

The Benin have survived slavery, Anti-Colonialism, Reconstruction, ect, up until the 21st century where they remain in wealth and in power, alongside the Forty.

Dominique is the current Slayer - in a long line of Slayers - that have emerged from the noble, and powerful Benin Family of Africa. She was very young when she first learned of her calling, no more than five years of age when she was put to the test to see if she could adequately handle the knowledge that there were creatures of night, and that one day, Dominique would be called upon to fight them. Dominique was a smart child, and a very perceptive one. Even so young she understood and knew what her duty would be once she came of age. Spending most of her young life between South Africa and England, Dominique was raised between her Mother and her Mentor. Her Mother, Head of the Benin Family, and a former Slayer, was heavily affiliated with the Forty of New York and many of the Slayer factions in America and most of Europe. Her Mentor put her through one of the most prestigious private schools in England, schooling her himself in demonic lore every other hour of the day. When she turned fifteen, she was sent to New York, and under Arnand's tutelage, became known in the Kindred World, reminding them of the legacy of the Benin Slayers.

Dominique is a more than capable fighter, having gone up against the likes of Alexander Therion and Malaikat Shuurajou on more than one occassion. She is one to hold her own in a fight, but recognizes the futility of fighting alone. The Brethren are her Family, extended as they may be, and she intends to deliver her own child into their waiting embrace when her time comes to pass. All business and no play have never been Dominique's style, and she gains pleasure from the Hunt just as much as she does from dancing all night with friends.
