Deric Anjou

A Momma's boy, but not in the regular sense of the word, because his Mother was hardly 'regular'. From the time that he turned ten, Deric has been in training. He had no interest in science, nor school, but to a young child, the dangerous and adventurous life that he envisioned his Mother led was all the world to him. Still, she forced an education on her unwilling son, and he was all the better for it. By the time he was sixteen, he was hunting the streets of both New York and Paris with his Mother, Gracielle, and sometimes with Arnand Jacobs. His Father had no objections, because he was absorbed in his work, and his daughter. Deric did not begrudge him this, but he did feel slighted as only an only son could be. But that all changed when his Father came up with the serum. He demanded to be tested along with his Mother. And when he was, the feeling was incomparible. He felt a new freedom, and an even deeper need to rid the night of it's predators. Unlike his Mother, he was able to handle the serum, and the onset of bloodlust did not come for another few days instead of just a few hours. His Mother turned on him after the serum had been in her system, and all he saw was rage in her eyes. It was hours before he could subdue her, and exhausted, he carried her back to their estate in Paris.

They barely had time to test it a second time before Gracielle was murdered. Deric was nearly killed as well, but managed to get away from New York. By the time he reached Paris, his system was in overdrive from the serum, and he welcomed himself home by attacking his sister at the front door. He was recovering when his Father roughly shook him awake and demanded that he take his sister and get out of France. Deric understood the dangers immediately, but his sister did not, which made it difficult to drag her out of the house.

The next few months were spent running, and fighting on Deric's part. He was thankful that Faith was in such a catatonic state with grief, because it was easier to get her from place to place. He, meanwhile, buried his grief for his parents, and took it out on the Kindred that got to close to them whenever they stopped and rested. He handled everything, from the money to the transportation, to the protection. Even though his sister was with him, he felt alone most of the time.

He was actually happy when she became angry a few weeks after getting them settled in Colombia, because he had something to share with his sister; their anger at what happened to their Family. He hunted every night, gathering information about the Kindred and covertly getting information about the Forty in New York. His search for his parents betrayers had become his obsession while Faith's remained in science. Slowly but surely, the pieces began to unravel, and he traced the Kindred who had killed his parents back to their clans, their dens, and their cities.

Deric is commanding and terse, and can be short-tempered at times. He speaks with an authority beyond his years, and is a natural leader, having learned that much from his Mother. But he also has many personalities, and can change them at will. That is why he is dangerous, and coupled with his skills as a fighter and killer, and the serum, the Kindred have a whole new enemy to fear.
