Irayne Magi

Irayne was birthed more than 500 years ago, a pup of the Tribe that had named themselves the Children of Gaia. Her Tribe were gentle mediators to their kin, having come from an unknown origin and displaying abilities such as healing and unheard-of magic. The Children of Gaia favor understanding over bloodshed, and, unlike any other tribe, are committed to helping humanity. They are perhaps the only werecreatures bold enough to broach the city gates where Kindred are the Dominant species. Irayne's Tribe have, over the years, formed bonds of friendship and alliance with the Forty, and members who were devoted to helping humanity. Iryane holds these same principles to her heart, even after the slaughter of her entire Tribe. Irayne's destiny lay before her at the onset of her birth. The single child of the King of the Children of Gaia, her destiny since birthing was to become a spiritual leader to her Tribe, and her kin, the Society of the Lupine. Werewolves.

Her magicks came naturally to her, inherited from her parents, Elders, and the Mother Earth. As a young child, she always recieved visions, prophetic and otherwise. The pain of these visions was so strong that Irayne could not withstand them and would often suffer bouts of Frenzy and Turpor (akin to a coma) as a result. Her Father fashioned a pendant from a nugget of metal whose origin was also unknown, for his child, believing it to bring her a measure of peace. It did, as it channeled her visions, stripping them of their force so that she could withstand the power of them. The other changes that the pendant brought her were incredible power, and magicks still yet unseen. It has also allowed her to live as long as she has, and maintain her youthful appearance. Even though in her lupine form, a 9 foot tall werewolf with sable fur, grayed with age, is a true marker of her age.

Upon the death of her King, Irayne stepped into place, and was able to mediate peace between certain Tribes of werewolves and Defenders of the nights (the Forty), but not amongst the Vampires. They proved stubborn and willing to draw out the millenia long blood feud that had existed between the two species. Many shared their opinion; Vampires and Werewolves were natural predators, and natural enemies, as it should be. But Irayne never believed this of the Creatures of Darkness. Her Faith wavered, but did not topple, in the face of the global defeat of the werewolves at the hands of the Kindred, all led by those of the Therion Clan.

Irayne was attending a Conclave meeting of the Tribes when the attack occurred. Though she remembers little, she does know that there were at least a dozen Kindred to one King or Queen werewolf, and that she herself fought claw and fang against Alexander Therion himself. And he cut her down.

Even as werewolves have amazing healing capacities, it took days for Irayne to fully heal, and when she did, the destruction about her nearly sent her into a Turpor. Almost every Tribe leader was slaughtered, their bodies ripped to pieces to insure that they did not heal. Irayne, though, was not. She realized that if the same had been done to her, she would not have woken up, even with her healing abilities. Often she has wondered whether or not Alexander Therion meant to spare her life, or if he was simply careless.

Reunited with the only surviving member of her Tribe, Guylaine, Irayne learned that the attack had not only centered on the Tribe's leaders, but on the very tribes themselves. The Kindred had decided to make sure that they remained the Number One predator on earth by eliminating the only rival that was strong enough to overpower them. Of the survivors, Irayne found that the werechild of mixed blood was amongst them, and all her theories on the destruction of the Werewolves were changed. She now wonders if it was the child they were after, instead of the entire species. She still searches for the truth, and a small part of her wants justice done for the extermination of her kind.

Irayne's every belief has been challenged, and she is powerless to stop her kin from engaging in their revenge. She can only act as a spiritual guide to her fallen kin and hope to keep her own soul unsoiled by the horrors of war.
