My  Lesson Plan
Fall 2000

Grade Level:     K to 5

Objective:     Students will learn and practice concepts of spatial relationships, patterns, shapes, creating patterns and shapes, shapes within shapes, and mirror symmetry through exploration.

Materials Required:     Tenth Planet Explores Math: Level 1 Geometry, Macintosh computer with microphone and printer

Preparation:     Review the basic of running the program, including the microphone to record results into the student’s notebook.

Activity:     After loading the program, students can select activities from the program.  Once a topic has been selected, the computer guides the students through the activity.  The program is a series of interactive multimedia geometry units to develop student’s understanding of geometry and spatial sense by building on the student’s natural experience.  The program provides many activities for the students to manipulate objects to form shapes an patterns.

Evaluation:     All results can be captured in each student’s notebook, including written as well as verbal comments.  Pictures of completed shapes and designs can be “photographed” into student’s notebook.

Comments:     Other related geometry programs for various grade levels are Geometer’s Sketch Pad, Geometric Presupposer, Elastic Lines, Mathematical Modeling, and Hands on Math.
