2nd Trimester

  • This is usually counted as weeks 13-24. By week 15 I was feeling Baby move. It started out feeling like a gas bubble, but I realized it was always in the same place - about 2 inches below my belly button. By week 18, I can feel Baby kick and roll.

  • Hear it! I cannot figure out how to edit a sound recording, so this is 42 seconds. You will hear Baby's heartbeat and at 8 sec you will hear Baby kick. Around 30 sec the recording gets bad because Baby moved out of range and we were moving the doppler around.

  • Week 18 was the anatomy scan where Baby is measured and all of Baby's organs are checked. Everything looked good in this scan, which was a source of comfort when learning three days later that a neural tube defect screening test (AFP) came back abnormal. We are waiting for those results (as of 5/3/08). If the re-test is abnormal, we have to go for another ultrasound to check that Baby's spine is formed correctly.

  • Second trimester's stress includes a visit to the hospital every other week to be checked for incompetent cervix, another potential side effect of bicornuate uterus. It means that I could dilate early and never feel it and Baby would be in jeopardy. If the doctor sees the start of this, I will have a cerclage and probably be put on some type of bed rest. But... So far so good!

By 13 weeks, Baby is looking more like a person and waving in utero. We saw some cute waves and kung foo kicks that day.

Tired of being squished, Baby decided to make a little room in there! Mommy has to go shopping.

The anatomy scan was at 17w and 4d. Baby decided to take a nap, so it was difficult to get all the measurements. We got them all in the end and everything looks good!
