Niketa Lodge History

Niketa Lodge is named for Niketa, our first mare who very sadly is no longer with us. This wonderful mare introduced us to the wonderful nature and versatility of the Appaloosa breed. She tragically left us at only 9 years of age, succumbing to the dreaded Paterson's Curse. Although only here for a short time, she left her impression on the hearts and minds of all who knew her. Campaigning as "Dusk to Dawn," she had success in many disciplines, but above all was a treasured friend. She is sorely missed, and even now, 9 years on, leaves a big void in our hearts. 

Many horses of all breeds, shapes and sizes have come and gone over the past 15 years, but it is the Appaloosa that has captured our imagination. It is Niketa's legacy, and a fitting tribute to this wonderful mare that our horses should bear her name. She had so much talent, so much potential, but never the chance to realise it.
