Local legend says that long ago when the Vietnamese were fighting Chinese invaders, the gods sent a family of dragons to help defend the land. the family of dragons descended upon Ha Long Bay ("Bay of Descending Dragons") and began spitting out jewels & jade. These jewels turned into islands dotting the bay, linking together to form barriers against the invaders. However, Ha Long Bay is probably more widely know now because it was featured on "The Amazing Race 10."
These limestone islands have been eaten away by the sea to form beautiful skylines, interesting caves, and sometimes, even shortcuts. |
