MSF Instructor

I am a certified Motorcycle Safety Foundation Safety Instructor.  Well, now we are called RiderCoaches.  To find out more about the Motorcycle Safety Foundation itself, just click on it.

This means I can teach the Riding Street Skills, and the new BRC (Beginners RiderCourse) course in Virginia. For more information about the course in Alexandria, VA, where I teach click on the logo.
Virginia Riders Training Program, more information

Because I know and use sign language, I can sign the course if there are deaf/hard-of-hearing people interested in taking it. [I also speak and hear well, so I teach hearing people too] If you are deaf/hard-of-hearing and you are thinking about taking the course, please let me know (e-mail me). I can tell you which dates I will be teaching this year. If you are not able to get into one of those classes, other arrangements may be possible. In the past, interpreters have been used. However, due to liability and safety factors, interpreters were only used in the classroom. They were not allowed out on the range. Instead, deaf people were given a copy of the instructions for a particular execercise, so they could read along with the instuctors (instructions are normally given verbally). In addition, if there were two groups of riders, the deaf students would usually ride with the second group doing the execercise so that they could see what was being done, to make sure they understood what they need to do. This worked reasonably well, but there were some problems with a lack of interpreter on the range. Anyhow, since I am a certified instructor, I CAN go out on the range, sign the directions for the exercises, and answer questions more easily. I can also sign the course for the in classroom section too.

I currently know of instructors who can teach in sign language in Washington, New York, Pennsylvannia, and Connecticut.  Contact me if you need more information.  If you know of any other MSF instructors who teach the course in sign language, PLEASE let me know!!

Finally, I complied a list of answers to some common questions students in the DC area have asked me during the breaks (plus through in a few answers to questions unasked).  To take a look, go here.
