introduction getting started Tasks resources The Essay Evaluation

The Essay
This essay should be a first-person narrative of your imaginary experiences during this experiment. You should consider your preconceptions about the experiment before you began, then describe some of the revelations you experienced during the project.

Writing Your Essay

Look back to the excerpt from Nickel and Dimed. In what voice did Ehrenreich write? Use your descriptive paragraphs as starting points, be creative. Try to imagine what it would be like to live the life you've explored and write your essay from the point of view of someone in that situation.

Expand
What would you miss about the life you live today? What, if anything, do you think would be better about living the lifestyle in your simulation? If you were able to make ends meet, imagine what might happen if you were faced with unexpected expenses, or illness.

Concluding Your Essay
Was this webquest valuable to you? Why or why not? What did you learn? What were your biggest hurdles in trying to make ends meet? How could you have changed your situation?  Compare your experience to Ehrenreich's. Did you find your simulated lifestyle to be interesting? Frustrating? Be creative, and include your own personal reaction to this experience. Your opinions, feelings, and input count!

Finally
You are to submit your essay and your webquest folder. You will be graded on the entire project. See the evaluation page for the grading rubric.
