~~~~Love Above All~~~~
Chapter 1
Nick drove home slowly from the recording studio, just thinking and enjoying the quiet drive on the clear, crisp January day. He was nearing his 28th birthday in a few days and the thought of it made him chuckle. Who would ever have thought that at 28 he would already be married for 8 years, have two kids and another on the way and still be a member of the hugely successful Backstreet Boys? His thoughts turned to his wife, Elisha. She had turned 41 last year, but still didn't look a day older than the day he had met her. Nick glanced at his reflection in the mirror and laughed ruefully. "Sometime, I'll have to ask her how she does it!" he said outloud. He shook his head when he realized that he had driven past his house. "Good job, Carter! Lucky your daydreaming didn't cause an accident!" Scenes of an earlier crash tried to invade his thoughts but he pushed them aside.
As soon as the garage door shut, his and Elisha's oldest child at 4, Rebecca, ran out of the house and grabbed him around the knees. "Hi daddy! Guess what we did today?" Nick looked down at her fondly and ruffled her hair. "Did you do it by yourself or with mommy and Brian?" Brian was the youngest, at just turned 3 years old. "With mommy silly! We went to visit Uncle Aaron! He has so much neat stuff! He let me play his computer!" "He did?" Nick bent down and picked the little girl up. "You must be a pretty special girl for Uncle Aaron to let you play his computer! What game did you play?" Rebecca started happily babbling on about the game and Nick smiled as he walked towards the house with Rebecca on his shoulders.
They walked into the kitchen, ducking low at every doorway. Rebecca giggled and demanded that Nick let her down. "Not until I get a kiss from my best girl!" He twisted his head around so she could kiss him on the cheek. Nick swung her around before setting her on the ground and this set her off on another gale of laughter. Elisha walked into the room with Brian on her hip. "I thought I was your best girl!" she pouted. Nick came over and took Brian from her while giving her a kiss. "You are, I just can't let the little princess know that. It would shatter her world." He sat down with Brian and watched Elisha preparing dinner. He was surprised to see her cane leaning against the counter, she hardly used it anymore. The cooler temperature must be bothering her legs, he thought. Some days you couldn't even tell that she had been paralyzed for a time.
"How was the little darling's dance class today?" Elisha hadn't returned to dancing herself, but a local group had hired her as a choreographer. She also taught a tiny tots class, which Brian was a member of. Nick told her she didn't have to work, but she insisted on it. "I have to keep busy!" she had said. "I'm not just gonna sit around and watch you all day!" Elisha flipped the pizza crust on the counter and rolled it out "Oh it went fine! Your son is quite the little mover! I wish he could pass on some of his ability to some of the other kids. You know, the ones whose moms think their kid is gonna be a STAR!" Elisha flung her arms out dramatically. Nick laughed and tickled Brian's tummy. "Is mommy playing or are you a good dancer?" "I'm the best!" Brian pronounced. He hopped off his fathers lap and proceeded to dance his way around the kitchen. Nick stood and hugged Elisha around her pregnant waist. "I think we have a star in our midst!"
