Just To See Her

~~~~Chapter 41~~~~
In the days leading up to the photo sessions and first tour rehearsal. Nick insisted he just wanted to have fun. "I want to forget I am a Backstreet Boy, even if it is only for a few days." Kathy honored his wishes and they spent their afternoons walking the dogs in the park, shopping and taking Aaron to the theme park on a rare day off for him. They also grew closer and closer the more time they spent together. Kathy admitted to Rho that she couldn't deny her feelings for Nick and told her it was just a matter of time before they let nature take it's course. "What are you waiting for?" Rho demanded. "I don't know!" Kathy laughed at her friend. "We'll know when the time is right."
"God, this feels so good!" Nick exclaimed as he splashed in the ocean water. "I can't believe I waited so long to swim again!" He ducked under the small waves and swam in a circle around Kathy's legs before breaking the surface with a grin on his face. "Just remember to stay within the sound of my voice, or, if I'm not with you, the radio on the deck." Kathy cautioned. "And don't dive too far down!" she hollered, as he dove under the water again. Nick was obviously in his element and loving every minute of it. Kathy swam a few laps of the pool and then followed Nick through the opening of the pool wall to the ocean. "Where are you Nick?" He popped up behind her and grabbed her waist. "Right here!" He felt for her cheek, turned her head to him and placed a gentle kiss on her lips. "This is the one place I love with all my heart." He sighed and kissed Kathy again. She returned his kiss and stroked his cheek. "I can tell Nick." He wrapped his arms around her tightly and buried his face in her neck. "I feel so alive now. I was so down for so long." he mumbled. "You're a big part of me feeling this way, you know?" She ran her hands through his wet hair and lifted her lips to his again. "I think I love you Nick." "I know I love you." he moaned, as their lips locked in a sensuous battle.
"Let's go into the jacuzzi." Nick muttered against her lips. "No." Kathy managed to pant out. "The deck, let's go up on the deck." They slid over the wall and into the pool before climbing onto the deck. Nick pulled Kathy into his embrace. "I want you so much Kathy. I love you so much. I've never felt like this with anyone." he said, as his tongue traced a path across her neck and shoulders. She was lost in a haze of erotic sensations. "Oh Nick, I want you too." He gently ran his hands up her arms and slipped his fingers under her bathing suit straps. "Are you sure? I don't want to force you to do anything you don't want to." "I'm sure Nick, oh God, I'm so sure!" She gasped as his head dipped to her breast and he began to tease her nipple with his tongue. "Nick." She said firmly, causing him to raise his head. "We both know where this is leading." She said more gently. "I'm going to grab a condom." Nick groaned in frustration and then grinned. "You have condoms?" Kathy punched him lightly in the arm. "You never know when a gorgeous guy is going to sweep you off your feet. A girl needs to be prepared!" Nick laughed. "Just hurry, okay? I can't wait to see if my senses are heightened!" Kathy giggled and kissed him once more before getting up to go into the house. She spun around quickly to look at him once more and felt her foot slide out from underneath her. She reached wildly for something to break her fall and screamed.
"Kathy?" Nick yelled. "What's wrong?" In the next instant he heard a sickening thud and a splash. "Kathy!" he screamed. He scrambled to his feet and felt for the edge of the pool with his foot before jumping in. "Kathy!" Nick splashed his hands frantically around the water trying to find her. "Oh my God Kathy! Where are you?" He dove under the water, keeping his hands moving, hoping to feel her. He bobbed to the surface and took a deep breath. "Lord help me. Don't let her die because of me. Help me find her!" Nick prayed before slipping under the water again. He dropped to the bottom and felt with his hands and feet. After several trips to the surface for air, he finally found her floating face down. Sobbing, he pulled her close to him and, carefully as he could, placed her on the deck before climbing out himself. "Oh God, oh God!" Nick felt for Kathy's neck and tried to take her pulse but his hands were shaking too badly for him to feel anything. "I need help!" Nick sobbed. He remembered they had brought the phone out to the deck with them. He stood and shakily made his way over to the table. "Where is it?" He cursed and forced himself to move his hands slowly to make sure he didn't knock it off the table and break it in his haste. He brushed his hands against it and he curled his fingers around it gratefully. He recalled the feel of the braille numbers and punched them in slowly, praying with every push.
"911, how may I direct your call?" "Oh thank God!" he choked out. "My girlfriend fell into the pool, she hit her head, I think. I need help! She needs help!" Nick sobbed into the phone. "Is she breathing?" "I don't know, I don't think so!" "Is she bleeding?" "I don't know!" Nick yelled. "I'm blind, I can't see her! Please get some help here!" "How long was she in the water, sir?" "I'm not sure, I couldn't find her right away. Maybe five or ten minutes." "Help is on the way sir. Please stay on the line and let me know when they arrive" The operator informed him. Nick walked back over to Kathy and knelt beside her. "Please be alright, I love you Kathy." "Is she moving at all?" The operator asked. "No." Nick said softly. "I don't think she has moved." The sound of sirens broke the afternoon air and Nick told the operator that help had arrived. "Good luck sir."
Nick sat off to the side, helpless as the paramedics worked on Kathy. "Is she alright?" He asked no one in particular. "What is your relation to her sir?" A friendly female voice accompanied the touch on his shoulder. "She's my girlfriend. Is she okay?" "We need to take her to the hospital, she's got a severe cut on her head and is having trouble breathing." Nick heard the sirens start again and one of the vehicles screamed out of the driveway. "This is all my fault." he sniffled. "Sir is there someone we can call to meet you at the hospital?" Nick rattled off Kevin's number numbly. "Okay, your friend said he is calling the others and will meet you there. Let's go!"
