My Personal Diary

what's really happening

Sept. 13, 2000 23:57

My horoscope pretty much sums up my mood right now. I did get some stuff on my list but some things are still just sitting by the way side. "The Sun is in Virgo. You're not quite up to speed yet, and you could get frustrated. Why send your blood pressure through the roof? Instead, enjoy the scenery while you're stuck wherever you are. Make a list of what works and what doesn't".

Seems that no matter how much time I have I end up adding on new things just so I'm not bored and of course it's preventing me from doing half of the things I have said I was going to do weeks ago. I'm gonna try going through the list today - probably not in this order: Call Ogilvy about check, call/email AAAA, email resume to Joy M., finish updating site, email TJ and Antony.

Well, how much excitment can a gal take. 2 Thursdays ago Vinnie and Ceasar got in a fight at Full Moon. I really don't like going there anymore. The music has started to suck and the crowd is usually not the ppl I prefer to be around even if there isn't many ppl there. Vinny and I went to 1509 last night. I'm gonna make it a point to go out A LOT more. I've had a taste of the work life and I need to have all the fun I can while I can. I'm really glad NYC has given me a new light into not only what I want in a career but what I am willing to accept from people around me. I think the level of professionalism I have gained has helped me to deal with some of these situations. This is part of the reason I feel I need to email TJ and Antony.

I have met a new guy. That's about all I have to say about that at the moment.

LOST IN HARLEM:
Well, it was suppose to be a wonderful day but it didn't exactly happen that way. Antony (yes, the I'm an "ungrateful bitch" guy) and I were suppose to go hang out at Central Park since I had never been. I guess I had only been in the city for a bit over a week then. Well, I was late... Waaaaaaaaaaaaaay late. And he wasn't there when I got to Columbus Circle. I had never really went anywhere but where I work so I wasn't exactly sure how to get back but I figured I could take my trusty map and get back home with no prob. I jump on the first train to arrive at the subway station (the A subway line). I knew it didn't exactly stop at my stop but it was the express so it wouldn't take me as long to get back. And according to the map it was about 2 or 3 aves over. Well, if you've never been to NYC the streets are pretty close so not too far to walk. That most definately isn't the case for the aves. Considering Manhattan only goes up to 12 aves. But that wasn't even the beginning of the adventure.

I was still pretty happy with my decision. I got even more excited when I got off the subway and everyone on the sidewalk was looking at a man standing in the middle of the street. I was sooo excited. A live street performance. You can't get that in Tampa. I was like this is going to make up for me missing out on going to Central Park. Well, it finally struck me that it wasn't a "real" practiced performance when he stripped down to his boxers and then whipped out his penis and did a little helicopter trick for everyone. Well, I guess you can't really get that in Tampa either. His friends got a bucket of cold water and poured it on him. Then he laid down in the middle of the two lanes. Then I got another little reality about the city. Through all this two cop cars had passed by and didn't say or do a thing. Kinda scary.

So here I am in the middle of Harlem and I have no real clue as to which way was north, south, east or west. I got lucky and headed in the right direction where I'm walking down the street just trying to blend in and hope no one says anything to me (mind you, I was looking good. Not like I'm so cute today good. More like I'm ready to go to the club good - complete with my heels). Here's where the streets and these long ass avenues come in. The map neglected to show that between the aves I needed to get to was a big ass park that didn't seem to go all the way through. That meant I had to walk down about 25 streets to even get to the right ave. The only good thing that came out of that was being about to see some of NYC tourist attractions the major one being the Catherdal. I knew absolutely nothing about this side of town and had never rode the bus but I had heard it is extremely hard to understand so I decided it would be better to walk than to get lost even farther on the bus. Well, I left that theory after my feet hurt so bad I could barely stand. I hopped on the bus and rode over to Broadway and 125th (1.5 blocks from where I lived). That was a long day to say the least and I don't think I even went out that night b/c my feet hurt so bad.

I'm back in Tampa. With all this new time on my hands - well at least until school starts Monday - I have decided to update this site the way it was meant to be. My experience in NYC was awesome. Of course, nothing is totally great but I did learn to appreciate a lot of things that only NY can offer like walking through Grand Central and seeing 4 or 5 different performances or walking down Time Square at night looking at unbelievably creative people just working for a living. And oh my, how about those subway performances. Yeah, some are just down right bad and/or lame but some of them made me crack a smile when I was having a bitch of a day. I got to see some "real" concerts at Central Park Summerstage and World Trade Center Centerstage.

When I finish updating the site or at least until I get tired of updating it, I will tell the little story of me getting "lost" on the subway in Harlem.

I just noticed that all my entries this year had 1999. That's pretty sad but anyway. Here's what I really wanted to say.

Fast run down on my NY life and experiences. I'm living in Morningside Heights (Between upper westside - where Seinfield was based and Washington Heights - Dominican Heaven). I'm about two blocks southwest of Harlem and 6 streets north of Columbia U. The name of the place is International House which is very true. Other than the people in my advertising internship program (MAIP)... lol. I just realized some ppl may think that's what it stands for but really it's Multicultural Advertising Intern Program. Anyway, as I was saying... Other than the MAIP ppl, there is a little difficulty finding an American. That is probably an aspect I enjoy most. Not all of the time but usually.

Despite the fact that I have no kitchen, no A/C and a community bathroom, things are not too bad here. I have an awesome view from my window. I overlook two New York attractions - Riverside Church and Grant's Tomb, which is also a National Monument. Directly out is the church which you perhaps will see me bitch about soon. To the right side is the tomb. If I go up to the ninth floor terrace I can see all of New Jersey, the George Washington Bridge and the Hudson River. I should have some pictures from the 9th floor terrace. It's beautiful at night.

Since I've been here I've had a guy fall in love with me after about a week. He broke the news to me by sending me two dozen roses - not that that's a problem. He seemed like a really sweet guy until he got pissed because I didn't want to argue and refused to answer his phone call. So he decided to leave me a rather interesting message to let me know I was an ungrateful bitch who the world obviously does not revolve around. And though he was supposedly in love, he wished he never met me. But oh well, Shit Happens. We did have a lot of fun together and he showed me most of the stuff I've seen in the city.

Interesting events that have happened are followed. Some of these have a story behind them and I will tell about them in other entries to come. As far as what I've done so far: I've gotten "lost" on the subway. I've seen or been to: the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, World Trade Center, Showtime at the Appolo, Central Park, Chrysler Building, Roosevelt Island (Macy's Fireworks). I had a really nice guy take me to Queens and Brooklyn so I saw Shea Stadium, LaGuardia Airport, JFK Airport, that globe they used in MIB and probably some stuff I'm forgetting at the moment. I've seen most of the areas - Soho, the Village, Tribeca, Midtown (where I work), Time Square, the Theature District and the Financial District - some interesting pictures to follow. Yesterday I went to the Yankees game to see Tampa Bay get their asses beat 1-11 and they scored that one point before I even got there...Bastards.

I almost forgot.. I'm going to Central Park Summerstage today to see some double dutch.

Oh well, that's all I can think of right now. I'll keep you posted. Much love...

I got some stuff done for NYC today. Overpaid some bills so I don't have to worry about that later. I still am working on finalizing the contract for TJ to take control over Elite-Design (my dream). I should be done with that today or tomorrow. Oh wait maybe not tomorrow. I am going to Busch Gardens with my new honey. Geez, I think I'm in love if with nothing else but his tongue. This guy (remaining unnamed at this time) is driven me nuts. We had a little arguement yesterday and he came over and the first thing he did was drop to his knees and start licking me. WOW... Now that's an apology. I hope to have the contract done today or Sat. Anywho, I'm outta here. And as always, I'll keep you posted. xoxoxox

May 9, 2000

I have been sooo totally busy since the last time I wrote in this. I have graduated (finally). I am working on finalizing the contract for TJ to take control over Elite-Design (my dream). I met a really cool guy that has some potential but going to NYC for 3 months isn't helping that situation at all. I'll keep you posted. *smooches*

April 9, 2000

I have almost completely purged TJ out of my life. As it stands we don't communicate except through email and that is for business only which I am trying to end so I don't have to deal with him at all.

I have informed the agency that I won't be working much longer. Probably won't work anymore. This probably comes as a suprise to some that didn't know I had a job but oh well. I made some web sets. And I think I have found a new server to put this site on since I will have to move this when I graduate.

Well I'm back in school. My last semester. Whippy. Anywho, glad that the whole Y2K thing passed over okay. This semester should be much less stressful. Unfortunate for the few who know what that really means. I am diligently working to get all of the family reunion stuff and internship paperwork out hopefully by the end of the week.

Hi,

I am totally sick right now and it sucks. My throat is soar and I can barely swallow (no dirty thoughts). I am now trying to finish my take home final for my strategy class which is due tomorrow at 5pm. I will probably go look for my annual Christmas ornament tomorrow.

December 6, 1999

First things first let me just say. Free at last, free at last. Thank God Almighty - I'm free at last. After what seemed to be an eternity I have returned to my "regular" life. I am sorry that I had to end my journals but people were getting too jealous over some entries and it caused more harm than good. But now it's back to normal. I have no intentions of stopping this diary anytime soon. Anyone who gets offended. (Sit on it and rotate!!!)

I am finally about to be finished with the semester from hell and am looking forward to sleeping as much as I can. I am sooo happy I finally get a chance to get back to what I love the most - web design. Plus, I get a chance to do some craft stuff that I am very excited about.
