| William Thomas Towery was born somewhere between Louisiana andMississippi, in a covered wagon, in March of 1848. He was the 5th child of William Wilburn and Nancy Teague Towery. William Thomas was married to Lovis L. Jordan. They had the following children: Claudia Towery born 1871 Jastin Luther Towery born 1873 William Thomas married Dora Ray in Mississippi/Tennessee. They had the following children: Georgia Ann Towery born in Tennessee March 1878 Pearl Towery born in Tennessee May 1884 William Thomas came to Leon County, Texas in the early 1900's. He married Arminda "Minnie" Thomas Abernathy. They had the following children: Vernon Towery born Leon County 1908 Vernon died 1910 at 2 years of age. Homer Towery was born 08 Feb 1909 (twin) Herbert Towery born 08 Feb 1909 (twin) died 31 March 1909 William Wilmer Towery born 17 April 1913 died 4 Oct 1914 Note: 1870 Mississippi Census shows William Towery, age 22, and Love, age 17. 1880 Mississippi Census shows Lovis Towery, age 29, and Claudia, age 9, living with a H.D. Jourdan. 1880 Tennessee Census, McNairy County, shows William Towery, age 30, Dorah, age 24, Luther G. age 10, Georgia, age 1. 1900 Texas Census, Leon County, shows William Towery, age 50, Dora, age 50, Luther, age 27, Pearl, age 16, and James, age 4. 1910 Texas Census, Leon County, shows William T. Towery age 58, Minnie, age 36, James, age 14, Homer, age 1, Grace Abernathy, age 13, and Bertha, (Tabiatha), age 8 William Thomas Towery died 11 November 1936, and is buried at Sardis Cemetery, Leon County, Texas. No tombstone, due to flood waters. William Thomas 2nd wife, Dora Ray, is buried at Sardis Cemetery. Location is unknown. 3rd wife, Arminda |
