Towery
To our knowledge, Mannering Towery was the first Towery to settle in Misssissippi.  He was the 2nd  child of Edward and Elizabeth (Cannon?) Towery.  He was born ca. 1778 in North Carolina and was probaly  about 6 years old when his parents moved to Pendleton District, South Carolina.  He married before 1800 to Winnifred (Winnie), maiden name unknown.  She was born about 1783.
In the 1800 Pendleton District, S.C. census we find Mannering head of his own household (living near the household of his widowed mother and his other siblings).
Mannering Towery has the distinction of being the only Towery to have served in the War of 1812.
About 1826 Mannering moved his family from Lincoln Co., Tenn. to Monroe Co. Mississippi.  There,  he and his older sons began to accumulate land.  His wife, Winnie, apparently died between the census years of 1840 and 1850.  Mannering is listed in the 1850 census but is not listed in the 1860 census.  Therefore, we assume his death occured between these dates.
(1.)  The oldest child of Mannering and Winnifred was
Jacob Towery, born ca. 1798.  He married Margaret (maiden name unknown).  They were the parents of at least 9 children and lived their lives ouot in Itawamba Co.,
Mississippi.
     (2.)  Child #2 was
William Wilborn Towery, born 1805.  He married Nancy Teague.  They were the parents of 8 children and lived out their lives in Monroe Co., Mississippi
