Homer Towery
My father was Homer Towery.  He was born in Leon County, Texas, 08 Feb 1909.  His father and mother, William Thomas Towery and Minnie were the first settlers in the Ephesus Community.  His family was a farming family.  They farmed cotton mainly, and vegetables of all kinds.  Times weren't easy, in fact they were very bad.  In 1933, when Homer was 23 years of age, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps. This was an organization formed by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt.  The country was litterally starving to death.  This organization put men back to work and food back on their tables.  Homer enlisted October 12, 1933 and remained until Dec. 31, 1934.  He served in Camp P-58-T, at Weches, Texas.  He was in the forrestry service.  They built Mission Tejas State Park. He got paid 22.50 a month.  Homer sent this home to his sister, Pearl, as guardian for Homer's aged father.
While in Weches, Homer met and married Etta Mae McClain.  She was born 4 May 1905.  She was epileptic and died in 1946 in a tragic accident in a fire.

Homer then married Doris Newsom from Marquez.  Doris was born 26 Nov 1929.  They married 31 May 1947.  They had the following children:

William Thomas Towery born 29 April 1948
Mary Ann Towery born 21 Sept 1949
Netia Lou Towery born 15 Feb 1957 (this is me)

Homer lived his life in Leon County, below Jewett.  He died 08 October 1984, in Buffalo Nursing Home.
